    Problems with Backwards Compatibility & Xbox Live


    So yesterday I got a 360 console to play games that aren't backwards compatible, like the Guitar Hero games I've had gathering dust for 6 years or original Xbox games that aren't BC on XB1 like Sonic Heroes or the original version of GTA San Andreas, not
    the buggy mobile game 360 port. Once I logged in and recovered my account I went digging through the old dashboard and avatar editor for nostalgia and after changing my Avatar's outfit I couldn't connect to XBL anymore despite successful network tests.

    Trying to redownload profile would give me the "Something is wrong with your credentials" error and it carried over to the backwards compatible 360 emulator on both Xbox One and Series X. After a full afternoon of troubleshooting and trying to refresh my
    360 account data via support (who were no help, once I eventually got referred to an Agent they tried to pass me off to Hardware & Network for another hour wait time as if it was only on 1 console and not the 3 consoles I was telling him it was), I managed
    to successfully log in this morning after adding the 360 to my Devices via serial number on my Microsoft account. However, it hasn't fixed my profile for backwards compatibility. Instead, I can now sign in fine, but the emulator acts like I have max privacy
    settings enabled that block multiplayer & parties. Meanwhile, I have full permission on the 360 console and can access multiplayer games and party chat with no issue.

    I've deleted accounts, cache data, changed network settings, mac addresses, hard reset, changed avatar again both on 360 & through the avatar editor on One, reset my router, gone over my privacy settings a thousand times on the 360 and in my MS account,
    everything I can think of but the 360 emulator refuses to acknowledge that I have a valid, active account and acts like I have max privacy settings enabled. I have looked at every single thread online that mentions issues with signing in to backwards compatible
    games but none of them are about this issue of broken privacy settings or a false negative on account permissions,

    How can I get someone at MS/Xbox to refresh my account permissions so they sync and allow me to play backwards compatible games fully again?

    Hello Gabriel,

    Thank you for posting here on the Xbox forums. You can most definitely do this if you are playing backwards compatible games. If the game is on 360, and also on the Xbox one as a backwards compat title, then you guys will be able to play with each other
    through Xbox live (If the game permits it).
