Problems with "A" button

When I press the "A" button on the home page, it doesn't do anything. It blinks on the tiles but doesn't select it. I've tried power cycling the console, unplugging it and unfortunately my system is out of warranty. What are my options as my Xbox one can't
be used. I can't select any games.

"A" Button Broken

My Xbox One Controller + Cable for Windows' "A" button is no longer functioning. I've tested all buttons and everything works fine except for the "A" button which does not even register when I press it. The button does not feel any different than normal
when I press it, and the controller is very new, as I purchased it January 23 of this year. I tried to report the problem, which required me to register my controller officially, but the serial code did not fit in the box provided. Posting on these forums
is all I could think of after that didn't work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mine has also done this. I sent it in to Microsoft at the beginning of the month, due to it still being in warranty until October. I just got it back and it is still doing the exact same thing. Can anyone confirm that it is a problem with the system,
or controller? I don't know anyone else with an xbox one to try a different controller, and don't want to buy a new one yet, if its a problem with the system.

Anyone else that has had similar issues able to guide us?

Sorry to hear it guys. Without another controller to test and see if the issue does lie with it the only thing I can suggest trying is a Factory Reset on the console.

If you have an external hard drive be sure to disconnect it prior to the reset.

psychoQ - thanks for your reply. I am not sure what to do, very disappointed in the Xbox one, very pricey system which is now a brick. The other thing left to do is factory reset.

This is probably an error with the controller, not the actual console itself. If you have dropped the controller, or had any kind of accidents with it, that has probably caused this. You should probably just return it to the store that you bought it from
and buy another one.

Can you also check that your buttons are configured to the default in the Xbox Accessories app? It lets
you change the mapped buttons on the controller, and that might be causing the issue?

What actions are you seeing when you press the button? Any action at all? Another thing to check might be that the game has to be launched from the profile you're signed in as and trying to play? If another profile launched the game, I know that causes
some issues with controls and what happens on screen.

It's my sprint button that won't work. I switch the button layout for sprinting and then that button won't work unless I put stress on it.

Try performing a hard reset EXACTLY like this. Hold the power button on the console for 8 seconds or until the power shuts down completely.
Unplug the power cord from the back of the console for 5 minutes.
Plug the power cord back in and restart the console.
