  1. Problems with 120hz 1440p HDR on Samsung QE65Q9FN

My Samsung QE65Q9FN is capable of 120hz at 1440p with VRR so I have the Xbox Series X settings set up to display this.

I also have allow HDR and allow HDR10 checked.

The TV allows variable refresh rate.

The TVs firmware has been updated to 1310.

When I play COD Modern Warfare Warzone my TV show the display as 4K 60hz Freesync HDR if I take out the HDMI cable and put it back the TV will re recognise the Xbox Series X and display at 1440p 120hz Freesync but without HDR.

After turning both TV and console off and returning to play the settings return to 4K 60hz HDR again if I take out HDMI and return it the settings will go back to 1440p 120hz but without HDR.

Why does the setting change each session back to 4K 60hz?

Why does 1440p 120hz not allow HDR?

    :)

Will Xbox series x/s have more monitors that run 1440p @ 120hz than current gen consoles?

I have a Samsung CHG70, it supports 1440P 120hz. If you want HDR you have to set it for freesync on the monitor and turn VRR on the xbox. Im hoping the series x supports 1440P 120hz with HDR on and not having to turn freesync on at all because its only
    limited to 80fps i believe.

Xbox One X on the LG C9 Oled TV doesn’t use HDR for resolutions other than 4K

I’m unable to play at 1440p with HDR, that was my goal (1440p@120Hz).

Xbox Series X - no support for 120hz on HDMI 2.0 TVs under 4k? (ie 1080p/1440p)

Well I've got a Samsung 2018 Q9FN and it runs it at 1440p 120hz no problem (the max it can take in HDMI 2.0). Without HDR because Xbox doesn't support it for some reason at that setting.

So you should be OK with the trick I linked to here - https://twitter.com/dark1x/status/1329066987037847555

Make sure "allow 4K" is unticked after choosing 1440p 120 as your output in settings.

Xbox One X on the LG C9 Oled TV doesn’t use HDR for resolutions other than 4K

Are you sure about that? Microsoft doesn’t mention this anywhere. I’ve seen reports from people with 1440p HDR monitors who said were able to use HDR@1440p in Xbox...

I do believe it’s a bug in the Xbox, on 4k TVs it doesn’t allow HDR for lower resolutions.

My use case for using 1440p@120Hz is because of much lower input lag and also less tearing and judder (the TV supports VRR). But losing HDR kills it.

Microsoft should fix this. Perhaps there wasn’t a use case for it before, but now a lot of 4K TVs (Samsung and LG) are popping up with 1440p@120Hz and it’s actually a better experience than 4k@60Hz.

Here is a quote from Reddit by a guy that has a 1440p monitor with HDR working:

    FHD HDR

Xbox only support hdr on 4k so we that have a xbox series s and 1080p 1440p hdr 120hz screen cannot get hdr because its not 4k. On ps4 it works tho 1080p hdr.
