Problems using Promo Code

So I bought a Xbox One for my kids during the holiday season and received a MS $30 promo code in the email. I just tried purchasing Killer Instinct for my PC with the code but, after signing in, it would not let me enter the promo code. When I got to checkout
all it had available to enter were codes for the games itself. Luckily MS support refunded me my purchase. But why can't I use this damn promo code?? I would love to use the code to buy the game and pay the difference with my card.

I'm applying the promo code. It takes $20 off at first, but after I enter all my info, it says there's an issue with the promo code.

Thanks. Since there was an option for using a code on the promotion page, I figured I could use a XBL code and still take advantage of the Promo.

I don't think that option for using a code should on the promo page because it just causes confusion.

 

Is it a 9 digit code or a 25 digit code? 9 digit codes are for microsoftstore.com. You would have to make the purchase there and it gives you the option to add a promo code during checkout. You would have to contact their customer support for issues with
entering the code.

25 digit codes are Xbox codes and would be redeemed to your account before you make a purchase.

 

It's a 9 digit code. When I go the Microsoft store site and try to purchase it, it brings up the store app from windows 10. There is no place to enter the 9 digit code. only the 25 digit ones

 

Make sure you're going to microsoftstore.com not microsoft.com

Yes. microsoftstore.com is Microsoft's retail store so they sell physical products. If you're actually trying to make the purchase through the digital store (microsoft.com or Windows store), it won't work.
