Problems Transferring from Original Xbox 360 to Xbox 360 Slim

I need some help to lift the spirits of a 9yo’s and an 11yo’s day…

Their ‘original’ xbox360 started dying. We had a lot of their minecraft worlds and their game saves (but not actual games) on the 20gb harddrive that plugged into the top of the unit. Before I took the dying xbox back to gamestop to get a warranty swap-out
for a new (to us) xbox 360 slim 240gb, I used the transfer function to copy the game data to a usb thumb drive (which is the way Microsoft tells you you can move it without a cable, as long as it isn’t a lot of data, which it isn’t). It all seemed to go fine.
The original xbox 360 unit recognized the drive and told me that it had copied everything to the USB thumb drive.

When I got the xbox 360 slim home, I plugged the usb thumb drive into it and attempted to transfer the data. Unfortunately, the xbox 360 slim wouldn’t give me that option. It would only allow present the option to configure the usb drive (sounds like it was
trying to format it?) and that it would erase everything on the drive. When I pop the USB thumb drive into a computer, it shows me multiple folders with data files of some sort in the nested folders. I assume that’s the game save data

I then broke down and decided to buy an actual 360 transfer cable. When that arrived, I plugged the original 20gb hard drive into the cable and plugged the usb end of the cable into the 360 slim. It recognized the 20gb xbobx drive, but it told me that there
was no data that could be transferred (everything showed “zero”).

So far, I could only conclude that when I originally copied the minecraft and game save data to the USB thumb drive, it actually moved the data to the thumb drive and erased it from the original 20gb xbox drive.

I have since removed the 20GB hard drive from the Microsoft casing and used a hard drive adapter (with a usb cable) to plug it into my desktop. Unfortunately, the pc will recognize it as a hard drive, but won’t allow me to open it and explore to see if there
are any folders on it. My hope had been that I could transfer the game save data from the USB thumb drive (if that’s where it is) back to the 20gb hard drive via my pc, and then use the xbox transfer cable to get it back into the xbox slim.

I’m now out of ideas. I’m not a computer expert and am about tapped out.

Do you have any ideas of things I can try (with either the USB thumb drive of data or with the original 20gb xbox drive) to get it all moved into my xbxox 360 slim?

Xbox 360 system transfer HELP

So I shared an Xbox 360 console with a sibling and we each had our own profiles. So I purchased a new 360 Slim and wanted to take everything associated with my account on the initial console (profile, achievements, game saves) to the Slim.

I transferred everything on a USB but although my profile and achievements transferred onto the USB and loads on the Slim, no game saves to be found.

What can I do to harvest the game saves from the original console without causing problems to my sibling's account and content on the original system?

Of course it is quite a bit bigger than the 360 slim, the original Xbox 360 was bigger than the slim, I'm sure it's bigger than the Xbox One slim will be too. That's the point of releasing the slim versions later on. But it is only 2.4cm longer than the original Xbox 360, which is what it should be compared to, not the revised, shrunk later released versions.
