Problems streaming videos from PC (WMP) to XB1, same videos play on 360 fine

Why does XB1 have a much harder time playing videos/movies from my PC than my XB360?

I have a collection of movies and videos that I stream to the XB media player from my PC (Windows Media Player streaming). XB1 has problems with many videos/movies that work perfectly fine on the XB360. I notice the larger the file size, the worse the XB1
handles them. Some videos stutter so badly they are completely unwatchable. Again, the exact same videos play just fine on the 360..

*For reference: Both XB1/XB360 are on the exact same wired network as my PC and both test very fast with the network tester so my network/connectivity/bandwidth is not the problem.

    :)

Media Player error 0xc00d36c4 streaming MKV from PC

I have a number of known good MKV videos. If I put them on a USB stick they play just fine in the Media Player app on XB1. They also play just fine on my Win8.1 PC in the Video app.

If i try to play those same files over my home network, stored on my Win8.1 PC with native Media Streaming feature enabled, on XB1 the Media Player app gives error 0xc00d36c4 "Can't play", consistently.

All my other media formats stream just fine using this same method. Only the MKVs are problematic when streaming from PC to XB1.

    Should this work? Thoughts?

Also on my PC, when I right click the MKV file, I am not given a Play To option.

  3. Videos lagging horribly when streaming from PC or from a USB drive

Hey everyone! I've been using my Xbox 360 to play videos via streaming it from my PC. Suddenly, it started lagging hard even after restarting my computer and Xbox. So I switched to using a USB drive to watch my videos, which worked for a little while; however,
now the videos lag out badly. I've checked the videos and even old ones I've watched just fine don't seem to work.

Any advice on what I can check and fix?

Xbox to PC help(Not the usual help) :p

Have you tried using Windows Media Center as a means of streaming video's from your comp? You can set up WMP on both the 360 and PC so that you can see any folder containing media and have it stream to Xbox. This way you can playback video's on both your
main drive and secondary without the need to place them in public folders.

    support.xbox.com/.../windows-media-center-on-xbox-360-windows-7 Windows 7

    support.xbox.com/.../windows-media-center-on-xbox-360-windows-8-setup Windows 8

I would recommend using that method of streaming video's and then just tell WMP on PC which folders you wish to share with the Xbox. Then when you access WMP on 360, it should see every single folder you have given permission to share from the PC. Its the
way I stream video's to my 360, with no issues aside from the fact Xbox does not play MKV unless you use alternative media sharing software.

Let me know if this helps. :)

Problems using Play To media streaming feature

I found a way around the DMR not detected/installed. First make sure you have the latest version of WMP then click the "Stream" tab and automatically allow devices to play media (if this option is not available you'll have to click more streaming options
and ensure your xb1 is there) once enabled all avi xvid and other windows compatible videos should be allowed to "play to" on the xb1. Note this has to be done from within the WMP software to be started. A new window will open telling you the device is connecting
and will display if the media can be played. From this new window you can now drag and drop items from folders into it as long as they are windows compatible. I don't know if this helps but I got the idea from this web link

Help Needed: Stream Video From PC to 360

Streaming video to the 360 has always been a pain in the butt. Even if you get it working there's a chance of cutting out and you're not allowed to fast forward or rewind. The best solution is to put your video on a USB drive.

Music on the other hand generally works great when streamed though Windows Media Player.

Here's how to setup WMP to stream media.
