problems recognizing discs

I have 2 day one xbox ones. Both are exhibiting the same problem. I have several friends who are also reporting the same problem. Getting my Xbox to recognize a disc it's a long drawn out task. Here's the symptoms.

1 Disc is inserted. Hear a 'grind' noise then nothing. Attempt to open game results in a prompt about owning the game or going to the store to buy it.

2. Disc is inserted. Hear reading noises then nothing. Attempt to open game results in a prompt about owning the game or going to the store to buy it.

Made sure the disc is clean. Power cycled the Xbox. Reset xbox. Same problem no matter what I do.

It usually takes me between 5 and 15 attempts to get a disc to read. At least 2 of my friends have this same exact issue. One called Microsoft and was instructed to send his xbox in for service and would be charged $130 for the repair. He opted to just
buy a new Xbox.

I on the other hand refuse to buy a new Xbox. A technology such as a disc reader which has been perfected for 20+ years shouldn't be a failure point on a $500 device. Anyone else experiencing this? Any tips on fixing it? Any word from Microsoft on fixing
it without charging their already dwindling customer base because they purchased shoddy components?

Hey Guys and Girls

For those of you having problems since the last system update with your console recognizing discs if you have a x button prompt come up for
Status Code check to see if the code is 03-57-00. I have been told by microsoft last night that this code is for a system upload error. Basically something went wrong when you did your system update. This has likely only happened to a minority of consoles
so if you do not have this Status code then it is probably something else. Microsoft recognise this and have offered to repair the console free of charge as a one off (would normally be about £75 i think). I hope this helps the rest of you who have had similar
problems.

if you don't recognize the disc, it would be best that you were to change it, unless you do not recognize other discs, then the problem is your reader

Hello Charlie,

This normally happens when a disc has scratch's on the back of the disc, and wont let the Xbox recognize the disc. If this is happening to every disc (different discs) then there might be a problem inside the xbox. -Josh

For it to play an installed game it must recognize the disc in the drive and the problem is it doesn't even do that.

A disc polish repair is my only hope... :S

Is the disc at least recognized? Are CDs or Blu Rays recognized?

The disc function is not connected to the xbl core service. So it may be an issue with your disc drive. As there were lots of problems with drives not reading game discs properly, but reading movie or music discws, your console ma ybe in need of some service.

Meanwhile as workaround you may try holding the disc a second longer when the drive tries to take it and then release the disc.
