    Problems playing BD-R on Xbox One X


    In short: I am having problems playing blu-ray discs (BD-R) I create on my PC on my Xbox One X. While they technically "play", the images will often be pixelated, and the first few minutes of the disc will play at greater than real time even though the audio
    is in real time. Is this a known issue? Is the Xbox One family picky about the options chosen when a disc is burned? If so, what are the correct options to choose? Are there options in the Xbox that affect this behavior?

    I do not have this problem with store bought blu-rays.

    Background Information

    The content for my discs comes from GoPro videos and pictures assembled into a movie using Nero 2016, thus the content is legitimate and there are no ripping issues. I have been doing this for years and the movies play fine on my PS3. I was hoping to make
    my Xbox One X my sole digital entertainment system but until I can fix this issue that won't happen. And, frankly, this system should be able to outperform a PS3 in every way.

    My burns typically use the option set:

    video mode: NTSC

    aspect ratio: 16:9

    quality: HDTV FULL HD (forces a bit rate of 30000 kbit/s)

    frame rate: 29.97 Hz

    audio format: AC3 2.0

    Additionally, I have made various burns with Nero's automatic adjustments toggled on or off. I get the best results when off. Still, I find it strange that my 1X is having problems at all, when the discs generally work fine on every other player I try them
    in.

    Thanks for reaching out to us here on the Forums!

    We understand it is frustrating since the Xbox One S will not read the Blu-ray discs. Now when you try to watch any Blu-ray discs, does the system display an error or message?

    Does the console play Game discs or CDs? Also, please make sure you have the Blu-ray player installed on the console. This is not an app that is pre-installed.

    Please check out the Disc and Blu-ray settings for more information.

    My guess is, the Blu-ray BD-R or BD-RE which is not supported by the Xbox One

    This feature was inadvertently included in the release notes for the July update. It is scheduled for a future system update; we will update this idea when the feature is officially available.
    The above quote is from the Xbox feedback website, about adding BD-R Blu-ray support however that does not guarantee BD-RE. it is however in progress at the moment and will be added as a future feature.

    Well this is crap. If MS wants Xbox One to be the one device to rule them all, not playing my home movies burned to BD-R means i still need to keep a standalone bluray player in addition to my Xbox. I just checked and PS4 does support BD-R. I guess that's
    just one more reason to prefer PS4 over XB1
