Hi, or maybe the problem not is on the disc, some consoles (!rst generation example) have problems with the new dashboard update, or last console update and one of those problems is with the xbox original games. This explains why your friends can use the
games in his Elite version.

That Instant Mode can get annoying. When you give the Dashboard a command to turn off, and it does silent updates, and say if you turned it off at the wall when it was in the middle of doing a silent update especially game update. That's probably why when
you check your games on the dashboard, it says something like installation pending. That's probably the only bad-ish reason for turning it off at the wall. Even though LED HDTV's and certain tech is energy efficient, I've been taught to always cut of power
at the wall when you go to sleep or away from home. It saves power and it prevents Xbox 1 from doing any secret updates.

I am having the same problem but for the last 2 months. I turn xbox one off and the next day or several hours later i turn it on and it lets me navigate the dashboard but when i click the a button on anything be it the game disc i have in or the settings/friends
tile it doesn't let me go into any of them meaning i have to press down on dashboard buttton and turn console off , but when i do turn the console off the light on the xbox one flashes for up to 6 or 7 mins before the console powers off.its doing this on almost
a daily basis regardless of doing a full reset, and in the last couple of weeks or so the controller message pops up on screen to tell me to reconnect controller even though tje controller is powered on and no it doesnt need updating. Xbox one is really peeing

I had the same problem. Try going to you Xbox one settings in the dashboard and turning closed captioning off from there.
