Problems connecting Xbox One to external speakers

Hi All,

I've got an external surround sound set up that's fairly old so it doesn't have a HDMI input. I'm looking for suggestions how I can connect the Xbox One to a projector with no sound output and an external surround sound system with no HDMI input.

Al help is gratefully received!

Connecting xbox one to external logitech speakers

The Xbox One outputs game audio through HDMI, optical, or even the controller. Since a 3.5mm audio passthrough is not available on your monitor, you are left with optical or your controller.

For optical:

To drive 3.5mm speakers in this scenario, you will want to purchase an active digital-to-analog audio converter.

This is an example of what you're looking for (not necessarily a recommendation, but the reviews seem good).

As you shop around, be sure to NOT purchase a passive optical to 3.5mm cable (example)
- this type of cable only sends digital signals, not analog, and will NOT work in your case. This is only for 3.5mm ports with a TOSLINK output built in. This cable will NOT convert the digital optical signal from the Xbox to your analog Logitech speakers.

For the controller:

If you have the Xbox One controller with a 3.5mm port built in (or use the headset adapter), you can output game audio through
the controller. It's mainly meant for headsets, but you can still technically connect your speakers through there anyway. Wireless interference might distort the audio, so you might want to connect the controller to your Xbox with a micro-USB cord.

Connecting xbox one to external logitech speakers

Hey everyone.

So I have an xbox one and I am looking to get audio from my xbox to my external logitech speakers. My monitor, unfortunately, does not have a 3.5mm jack or any audio whatsoever, so that is why I need audio on my speakers. My speakers use 3.5mm connection,
so is there anyway to connect the xbox ones audio to the speakers while having the video go to my monitor?

The only way to get sound out is hdmi or Spdif.

If your devices can't accept hdmi it's likely that it accepts Spdif. My system is over 10 years old and it works just fine using 5.1 DTS via Spdif.

This may or may not be related but I just purchased an Xbox One and connected it via HDMI to the same television that I also use as my computer monitor (also connected via HDMI). The external speakers that are connected via coaxial S/PDIF to the television
will play the audio from my computer but not from the Xbox One. Currently I'm having to switch the audio on my television to the built-in speakers instead of the external whenever I'm on the Xbox One source.

This problem is with the sound from the X Box One to the monitor speakers (HDMI), replaced monitor and same problem.. Tried external speakers plugged into the monitor and no difference.

This sounds incredibly odd. Are you using any kind of external speakers, or your TV's speakers? If external, how do you have the speakers connected to the receiver or TV?

There are a few ways you can go about this. The most typical is via an AVR (Audio Video Receiver).

1. HDMI from Xbox to your TV. HDMI from TV to an AVR. Speakers connected to AVR.

2. HDMI from Xbox directly to AVR. For this you'll also need to make sure you have HDMI going from AVR to TV so the video can pass through the AVR to TV.

3. Optical out to AVR.

There is no way to connect external speakers directly to the Xbox. You would need an AVR connected to the speakers and then a connection from the Xbox to the AVR.

If you don't want to go the AVR route;

You can buy an external sound card and connect your speakers that way.

You can use an optical to RCA adapter and plug the RCA adapter into the PC speakers.

You can buy wireless bluetooth speakers if your TV has bluetooth and your TV should output the sound from the Xbox to the speakers.
