    Problems After Update

    Hey!

So, my console updated to the latest release today.

Unfortunately it has had a detrimental effect.

Firstly, my Kinect now doesn't power on with the console, as a result I have to disconnect and reconnect it to make the system recognize it exists.

Secondly the system now won't recognize my media HDD. I plug it in (I have tried all the USB ports) and nothing. This is weird, as the external HDD I am using for system storage is recognized just fine.

I have disconnect the HDD and tried it with my laptop and it works no problem.

It is mad that these things still occur despite all the beta testing that goes on. My TV tuner stopped working after the last big update and never worked again, ended up throwing it away in the end.

    Any ideas for a fix?

    :)

    Problems after update?!

The last time I used my Xbox one I was required to install some updates. Whilst they were in progress I played on a downloaded game and the update downloaded in the background. I've come to use my Xbox today and it's not letting me start games as it says I'm
offline even though I am connected to my usual network. I can't access the settings or any other app on the home screen. I've tried the full reboot three times (fully powering down and unplugging for over 30 seconds) and this has has not rectified the problem,
can anyone suggest anything else for me to try?!

    Problems After Update

Hi, the first thing I would suggest is to hard reset the Xbox, with the Xbox powered on press and hold the Xbox button on the front of the Xbox for 10 seconds, the Xbox powers off, disconnect the power supply from the mains power outlet for around a minute
or so, reconnect the power supply to the mains power outlet, power the Xbox on again using the Xbox button on the Xbox.

If that doesn't help then try restoring the Xbox but be sure to use the option to keep your games & apps.

You will then need to set up your Xbox again, add your account etc but that will usually resolve most issues.

    OK,

So, tried hard reset with power disconnected, no effect.

Moved on to factory reset, gave a brief glimmer of hope when I plugged in my media drive and I was prompted with the "what do you want to use this drive for" screen. Selected "media drive" and......nothing. System still won't recognize that the drive is
    attached and ready for use.

Cannot fathom how this was working perfectly a few hours ago and now this.

On the upside the factory reset seems to have corrected the issue with my Kinect, sigh......

Ok. go to settings/ all settings/ power & startup/ power mode & startup

is there a check mark in when xbox is off turn off storage ?

if so take that check mark out, if you're using instant on power mode change to energy saving, reboot the xbox, if the drive works ok then switch back to instant on and try again.

Something else to try is to disconnect all external devices including the Kinect and then add them back one at a time, starting with the media drive.

Nice idea but didn't solve the problem unfortunately, or though I remember having the same issue after the last big system update and that did solve the problem.

The HDD spools up and runs when connected to the system, it just doesn't seem to recognize it is there for some reason. If I go to the storage option in settings only the internal Xbox and my external system HDD are present, pretty sure the media drive
also used to appear here too.

Also, too add insult to injury the Kinect has stopped working again.

This definitely seems like some sort of software problem to me, its almost like the system has lost its ability to manage multiple connected devices, especially with the Kinect cutting out.

The only other thing I can think of doing is formatting the drive, or though I don't want to have to back up the 1.5TB of media onto another drive just so I can do that.

There are a few reports of this issue over on the preview forums so you are not alone, some have formatted the drive and it then works fine. Not great if you have a heap of media on the drive.

    OK,

    HDD format it is then.

Might be worth mentioning that when I first booted the console after the update I think both external HDD's were attached and working, or though I can't say for certain. Everything went wrong when I enabled the Cortana feature that forced a re-boot. Worst
still if you attempt to disable the feature the system just hangs and does nothing, you end up having to re-set.

I'll try to deal with this more in the morning, far too late for messing around with now.

    Thanks for the help.

Interesting, if you go to settings/ all settings/ power & startup/ turn off or restart and do a full shut down is there any improvement at all ?

    No nothing.

As it is morning and I can think straight I'm going to Sherlock this.

Luckily I have another WD MyBook hooked up to my PC doing nothing. Just reformatted and dumped some media on it. Hooked it up to the Xbox and nothing.

Currently transferring all my media of the WD MyBook drive I use with the Xbox, going to format that, put everything back on and see if that works. Or though my experiment with my other drive doesn't make me hopeful as the only difference between the two
is on is USB2 and the other USB3.

Failing that going to do another factory re-set and choose not to enable Cortana, maybe it is her rampancy causing the issues......

Good morning, I had that problem with the Cortana settings locking up, when it locks up press the xbox button on the controller to get back to the home screen and then hit the menu button to go back to the settings, I had to do that a couple of times to
finally get to turn Cortana off.

    Update, somewhat annoyed.

Wiped my media HDD, formatted it, reconnected to Xbox One and nothing, still doesn't recognize the drive.

Shortly after I remembered that I have a handy little program on my PC that is able to switch external HDD formats between Xbox One System (non-windows) and Xbox One media (windows) formats so I decided to switch my media drive to the system format and see
what happens. Plug it in and wham, the drive is recognized instantly as a system volume.......

So after almost 12+ hours of messing around (not you're fault EggsBoxJuan you have been very helpful) it would seem that the system update is to blame, not my HDD.

Personally I think this is shocking. EggsBoxJuan pointed out to me that have been reporting this issue on the preview forums for months. The engineers response? Blame the users HDD's.

Well for me this is irrefutable proof that the system update it to blame, this could have been avoided if the feedback on the preview forums had been looked into before the update was pushed out.

Guess I will have to sit and wait for a patch now.
