Thank you for taking the time to post this on the Xbox Forums. We understand that you are experiencing difficulties with being able to add a friend from a different platform to join sessions in Minecraft.

You must verify that you have the most up-to-date version of the Bedrock version of

Minecraft. If your buddy is playing on a different platform, you must verify that he is also signed into his Microsoft Account in order for you both to connect.

There is
a list of different versions of Minecraft that will provide you with verifying you are on the correct edition that will let you cross-play.

Keep in mind that the "new" version of Minecraft is called "Minecraft" and not "Minecraft Xbox One Edition".

The only exception to this is the Windows 10 Edition, as this is to distinguish it from the Java version of Minecraft on PC called "Minecraft".

Alternatively , if you have
Xbox Game Pass you can install the game and keep playing on your account as long as you maintain the subscription.
