Problem with Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter

So, I fired up my Xbox One last night, ready to play some Halo:MCC at midnight. On top of the issues with matchmaking, I ran into problems getting any audio out of my Xbox One Stereo Headset.

Here are the facts that I have so far:

    1. The headset was working a week earlier when I was playing Advanced Warfare.

    2. I got no sound out of the headset last night at all.

    3. There was no mute light on the volume control.

    4. I unseated the adapter repeatedly in my primary controller. No luck.

    5. I tried the headset and adapter on another Xbox One controller. Again, no luck.

    6. I tried just the headset on my Macbook Pro. It seems to work fine just as a headset.

    7. I tried using a standard pair of earbuds on the Xbox One, with both controllers. Again, no audio out.

    8. I verified that I have the newest controller firmware in both controllers.

At this point, I believe I have a bad Stereo Headset Adapter, some system configuration issue, or I have two bad controllers. (I've listed those possibilities in the order of likelihood from my perspective.)

Has anyone ever had the Stereo Headset Adapter go bad on them? I've definitely had trouble unplugging it from my controllers on several occasions, but I never heard anything break. Is it possible that I'm missing some new setting to enable audio through
the controller that was introduced in the last dashboard update?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. This headset is the only way I can play shooters at night without waking up the whole family.

    :)

•Some third-party products come with a stereo headset adapter that may look different from the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter made by Microsoft, but they all function the same way.

•You can only connect an Xbox 360 Chat Headset using the stereo headset adapter with a 2.5-mm to 3.5-mm converter, which comes with the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter. The Xbox One Stereo Headset does not include this adapter cable.

  5. I used mine once as well, the second time I booted up my Xbox (never removed the adapter) all I get is a blinking mute-button light and zero sound or functionality. I have seen ZERO other people describe this, yet I am unable to start my own thread about
    it...

Xbox One S and Official Stereo Headset Adapter not recognized

    Hi Zathrus,

    We have two of the
    Xbox Stereo Headset
with Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter, and both sets have worked well with no problems for sometime now. And I have used the
adapter with non-Microsoft headset with no issues. So, given that you say your "3.5 mm cabled headset " works directly connected to the controller, then I regret to say it would seem that the fault lies with the adapter itself and may need to be replace.
