Problem with Xbox one controller charging via laptop USB port

    Hello,

I'm having a weird issue using my play and charge kit to charge my Xbox one controller. When I plug the play and charge kit into a USB port on my laptop (which is always on and plugged into a wall outlet) and then plug in the controller, the controller
makes chime noise, vibrates for a second, and then appears to start charging. However, once I unplug the controller from the laptop, it no longer syncs up with my Xbox one console until I plug it back directly into the console with the play and charge kit.

Am I doing something wrong or is using my laptop USB port to charge the controller a no-go?

    :)

  2. My Xbox One controller won't connect to my Windows 10 laptop

I wish to steam games to my Windows 10 laptop. I have set up streaming from the Xbox App and can successfully do it; however when the streaming starts, I get a notification saying that there is no controller connected - even though I have my Xbox One controller
plugged in to my laptop USB port via a mirco USB adaptor (a longer version of the standard one you get with the Xbox One).

My controller vibrates when I connect it to my laptop this way, but this message still appears. Please send help!

Controller issues. Xbox one says "there is noe kontroller via the USB, when there is!

. The problem is that my xbox one says "there is no controller via USB. Control that the USB cabel is in the console and the controller, then try again."

But there is a usb cabel in the console and the controller! I've tried different usb cabel.

The cabel works, but only when it comes to charging the battery. Nothing else.

Might be because your PC automatically downloaded the PC drivers and every time you connect it syncs to your PC. Would look under your device management and see if it shows up as a connected peripheral under devices and printers. In this state it would shut
off it's radio features and just use the USB cable to work as a controller for your laptop. Should be possible to uninstall it and delete the drivers. Just make sure next time you plug it in Windows doesn't automatically install them.

Any reason you can't just plug it into your Xbox One for charging the cable is fairly long isn't it?

Thanks for the info. The reason I don't plug it into my Xbox One is simple...it's further away than the laptop which lives right next to my couch. Basically, it boils down to laziness.

I'm going to look into a wall adapter to plug the play and charge cable into.

    Thanks again.

    led headset

it is for charging the controller only or connecting to pc/laptop.

the only way to get audio to a headset via xbox is via the 3.5mm jack, if you require power for the led lights then you need to plug into the usb port of the xbox.

    Charging without Xbox one console

    Hi

The play and charge kit should charge the controller when connected to a USB port on a laptop however please be aware that some PC's/Laptops switch off USB ports to save power if they are not in use.

    Hi,

Do you already haven an Xbox 360 controller or are you planning on buying one? If you already have one, then to use it on a PC/Laptop it needs to be a true wired controller. If it's a wireless controller, you'll need an Xbox 360 Wireless gaming receiver.
This is because the wireless 360 controllers only work via wireless, you can't make them wired.
Play and Charge cables will only charge the battery on these controllers, they won't send data.

Wired Xbox 360 controllers will work straight away with Windows 7, there is no driver to download. As for USB, the port on your PC must be either 2.0 or 3.0, but to be honest, unless your laptop is over 10 years old, this isn't going to be a problem.

Micro USB is the type of cable the Xbox One controller uses to connect to the controller itself, the USB that plugs into the PC is standard USB. As with the 360 controller, the PC port for an Xbox One controller must be at least a 2.0 slot. But like I
said before, unless your laptop is ancient, this won't be a problem.

It's been a while since I've used a PC with Windows 7, so if you opted for the Xbox One controller instead, you'll either get a prompt to install a driver for the controller when you plug it in, or you'll need to use the Windows Update tool to download it
    for you.

Hope that answers all of your questions.
