When I set mine up I used some random persons open wifi and I was set up in 20 mins

 

I'm having the same problem. The error code lookup says it's because I need to update, but no update is available and offers no solutions.

 

I am getting the same thing. I've tried doing a hard reset and everything. No luck.

 

Which makes absolutely no sense. It would be great to get this problem sorted out sometime soon.

Same, I have been on to support for 3 hours now. I'll post an update if they give me a solution, but the situation looks pretty bleak currently.

Do you guys have the option to "Skip and stay offline"?

I did, but the Xbox wasn't recognizing my Gold subscription. So support ended up cancelling my subscription and giving me codes for the time instead. After a hard reset it is now working fine.

I'm not writing this because it'll be the solution for everyone, but to let you know my situation and that there could be more to it than a failed update. My update showed as successful, but I was getting the error due to the conflict with my Gold subscription
(which there was no problem with, just an error/bug in their system).

 

I got back online after doing a few hard resets the xbox support suggested. They say they are aware of the issue, but didn't go into specifics. I don't know if that would work for anyone else here, but that's the only solution I have to give. good luck.

 

I am having the same issue. It kicked me in the middle of a game to try and update, after which I am left with the error screen. These are the options and what happens:

Try again: Screen Flashes and nothing else happens

Check network connection: Accesses networking settings, allows me to connect to one and then lets me play as if the update happened. Can't access the side menu when the Xbox button is pressed, instead pushing it freezes the console and I have to hard reset,
after which I am sent back to this error screen.

Skip & stay offline: Puts me to the home menu with all functions working, except I'm in the "Offline mode". As soon as I get back online and try to do anything, I get sent right back to t

his error screen.

Turn off Xbox: Turns off the Xbox, after which turning on results in being returned to this error screen.

 

Well I'm good now after doing a few hard resets...hold down power button till system shuts off, remove power cord...then plug back in and power on system...do that until it works
