Problem with sharing videos from PC via homegroup to Xbox 360. Doesn't update videos on ...

This thread came up in a search, so I thought I would share how I managed to get the xbox one to recognize media files in a Windows 8.1 computer. You need to add/share the media libraries to the homegroup. The steps are:

Goto Control Panel -> click on 'Choose homegroup and sharing options'

Select 'Change what you're sharing with the homegroup'

Ensure Pictures, Videos, and Music have 'Shared' selected, then click next. Click finished.

Xbox one should see the media folders now--at least it did for me. I don't remember having to go through these steps with Windows 7.

I'm unable to stream video from my PC to the Xbox One. I purchased 3 Xbox 360's and could stream video from my PC to all of them. Now my PC can't even see the Xbox One on the network and the Xbox One Video player doesn't see the PC. For a machine that
is supposed to be a multimedia powerhouse and be the "One" box to connect to your TV, this is a huge oversight and disappointment.

Anyone know how to get this to work? I want to view shared videos and images over the network and view them on the Xbox One.

In case anyone else has this problem this is as much as I can figure...

I did a manual shared folder add to the media center video library using local account credentials on another machine. This worked!! However, media center still refuses to see anything local to the media center PC. I'm guessing that when I go into the
video library on the xbox, it's looking for homegroup shared folders. This is a domain so there is no homegroup. It keeps telling me it can't find any libraries but now it actually lists the manually added folder from above.

So I figured I'll give it the network path and credentials for the media center PC. When I do this (\\tvpc\videos1) it actually adds "D:\" instead. It's because those files are local on the media center PC. I assume media center looks at the manual credentials
I entered and thinks 'this is already local to me so I'm tossing this away and using the local address'. Because there's no homegroupwith shared libraries, it can't see the local files because they're not shared that way. The odd thing is, if I use "System
Media Player" it sees both. So I can use media center to manage the shared folder setup and use the SMP to watch anything the xbox can read.

TL;DR: Media center on the xbox won't see files on the media center PC if they're local to that machine because there's no homegroup. It will manually connect to shares on other machines using their local account credentials and that works great.

I have a similar problem with my PC HDMI passed into my XBox ONE. The video is FINE as long as there is SOUND coming from my PC (i.e. watching a movie or listening to a song). As soon as the audio is done. BAM! The video freezes.

I know the PC is fine, I can connect to it from another PC via RealVNC. As soon as I hit 'play' on a song or movie - BANG! The video unfreezes and is fine.

Really strange! It's like the One is assuming that since there is no audio, it's not worth updating the video.

You don't even need WMP or WMC open for your Xbox 360 to search Specifc OS Music/Video/Picture Libraries in Windows, when you connect to your computer in Music or Video Player etc..

You can also, just set up a HomeGroup for the Three IP Addresses on your NIC & share files between IP Addresses too, as the OP obviously, hasn't got NAT between NIC IPs etc..
