  1. Problem with 1st gen Xbox One and newer controllers

I have a 1st gen Xbox One console with Kinect. I recently purchase another controller, a Microsoft branded one. It is the newer model with the 3.5 m audio jack. The problem I'm having is that the controller stops responding in games IF I have the Kinect
on. The other odd thing is that, ok, I turn the Kinect off so I can use the new controller. It seems to function fine then, but NAT on the Xbox One is strict instead of open - again only with the newer controller. If I use any of my original controllers,
NAT is open and I can have Kinect on. the Xbox One is up to date with the latest version of software, and the Kinect and the new controller are both up to date with latest firmware. Doesn't make any sense. Anyone seen this before?

    :)

  3. Why are the controllers such junk?

I've had about 10+ Xbox 360 controllers since I got my Xbox 360 on the 1st day of its release. I expect it to be largely the same with the Xbox One controllers, even with all of the new bells & whistles.

Problem with 1st gen Xbox One and newer controllers

I've not seen that occur before. I've got some controller troubleshooting you can try below.

Also, the NAT is determined and managed by the router. The Xbox just shows you the end result of what it's getting across the network connection. I don't see how a controller can impact that.

Make sure to use your new controller here.

    - Controller troubleshooting. - If it's a software issue with the controller, this should help.

    1) Settings > Kinect and Devices > Devices and Accessories > More Options

    2) Select Firmware version, (even if it states no update available) and then choose Update Now.

    - When its done it should state no updates needed

    - Choose Close

    3) Choose More Options > Select Assigned to and re-assign your profile to your controller

    4) Buzz the controller. It should buzz. If it doesn't, either the feature is turned off or the batteries are low. Use new batteries and test again.

    5) Go back to Configure and choose Restore Original. This resets the controller back to defaults

    6) Pull the batteries out of the controller and leave them out until the Xbox has restarted from the step below

    7) Hard reset the Xbox - Hard reset the Xbox by holding down the power button on the front of the Xbox for 15 seconds. After the 15 seconds let go of the power button then restart the Xbox.

    8) Put batteries back in the controller

    9) Re-sync your Xbox One controller to refresh the connection back to the Xbox.

    - If you're not sure how - How to Sync an Xbox One Wireless Controller with Your Console

    10) With your headset plugged into the bottom of your controller

    - Hit the Xbox Button on your controller and instead of choosing settings, choose Audio

    - Make sure the Headset volume is all the way up

    11) Now test the headset and see if it's working.

For the NAT issue, I'd suggest these steps to start with -

Power cycle your network by unplugging the power to the modem & router for about 60 seconds. Then plug your router back in.

Go to Settings > Network Settings > Advanced Settings > Alternate MAC Address > Clear > let the Xbox Restart

  5. Maybe I didn't state it correctly, but I have already done everything you mentioned PRIOR to posting this in the forums:

    1. Firmware version IS current on the controller, yes I checked for updates even though it said there were none.
    2. Controller is already assigned to my profile, I have reassigned it multiple times. Also tried with out assigning it multiple times.
    3. Controller buzzes fine.
    4. Controller is at defaults, never change them.
    5. Tried every battery combination. New alkaline, rechargeable ones specifically designed for Xbox one.
    6. Hard reset Xbox several times.
I do now think the NAT unrelated though. It seems for the NAT problem, it comes and goes from Strict to Open on a whim. Can change from from one hour to the next. The console has a fixed IP address and I have NAT setup properly to the Xbox.

I'd exchange the controller. I wouldn't even know what to try other than an update, but you've said you've done that already.

My Xbox One X controller isn't working on Windows 7 (wired)

When I try to plug in my Xbox One X controller, I get a 'device not recognised'/'could not install', etc. error. It just vibrates once, then nothing happens. No light on the controller at all.

My 1st gen One controller does work perfectly fine though.

I'm running the 'xb1usb.11059.0.140526x64' driver which works with the 1st gen controllers perfectly.

I've even tried the 1st headphone jack variant and that didn't work either.

Tried many cables, many ports, and 3 different controllers, but the only one that works at all is my original 1st gen one.

Is there something I'm missing? Do the current controllers just not work on Win7?

What driver/update is needed for them to work?
it is can be a problem with cable or usb port. Did you try to connect gamepad to other PC or with other cable ?
