Problem w/ Cross-Platform Minecraft Play—Realms: Better Together Update on Android & ...

I am having problems connecting to Minecraft Realms with my Nintendo Switch (the Better Together edition). For several hours, my sister (Switch user), best friend (Android tablet user) and I (Switch user) attempted to join my best friend's Minecraft Realm
(which she set up on her Android Tablet, updated to Better Together). We (the Switch users) have downloaded the new version of Minecraft (the Bedrock edition, which supports Better Together) on our Switches. We launched the applications and linked our Nintendo
accounts to ourour Microsoft/Xbox Live accounts as instructed. We even, finally (it took an hour to get even this portion to work), got as far as accepting our friend's Realms invite (from our Switches). However, once we accepted and clicked the green check
mark next to the name of her Realm, both of our Switches said "You cannot play online multiplayer because of how your Microsoft account is set up. Review and change your privacy settings at aka.ms/accountsettings." I went to
Sign in to your Microsoft account. I read other people's forum posts (ex. Can’t make a multiplayer game on Minecraft Bedrock for Nintendo Switch due to “how my account is set up”)
and navigated to the "Xbox One/Windows 10 Online Safety" tab. I scrolled down to "Join multiplayer games" — the forums said this had to be set to "Allow" for Realms to work — and it was already set to "Allow." All of my other privacy settings are appropriately
set. With that being said, I tried switching that setting (and others in the "Xbox One/Windows 10 Online Safety" tab) to "Block", hitting "Submit", and back to "Allow" again (for good measure) and, when I did this, none of the settings changed. I switched
them, clicked submit, and then they reverted back to their pre-switched state (I tried this several times). I am 19 and this is my Microsoft account, so no parental settings should be hindering me here. I am aware this is not strictly an Xbox question, but
I could not find a more appropriate support platform; in 2 days, I haven’t been able to get @XboxSupport to respond to me on Twitter; and @MicrosoftHelps on Twitter (who responded in < 1 hr) sent me here (after we conversed a little about it). Would any of
you be able to help me troubleshoot?

Cross plat options

As of right now, you cannot play together, even on realms. Buying the switch version won't help. However, this summer there is an update called 'Better Together' that features cross-platform play, and xbox, switch, ipad, android, and windows 10 will all
be able to play together. No release date yet, just 'summer'.

The cross platform isn't available with the Minecraft Xbox 360 edition, unfortunately. But it's available with the Xbo one edition and now the Switch Edition (and of course Windows 10, Android and Apple).
