Problem reading dvd discs?

My Xbox plays games just fine, as well as blu ray discs, but not dvd's. When I put a dvd in, the blu ray app starts, and then the screen goes black. The guide button on the controller won't work on this black screen. Ejecting the disc takes the Xbox back
to the home screen after a few seconds. Every dvd causes this, no blu rays or games do. I've tried hard resets, making sure that my video preferences are correct, as well as uninstalling and reinstalling the blu ray app. The dvd discs are in great condition,
so the problem isn't there. Any help or suggestions are appreciated. Thank you

Can't read game discs

My Xbox one is having trouble reading games. No errors just says insert disc. It quickly reads dvds no problem. My games are mint no scratches or anything.

I got it to detect a game last night by starting a DVD then putting a game. That's not working today. Almost seems like a software issue due to it quickly reading dvds.

Literally just had this exact same thing happen to me today. It was playing DVDs still last week when we last watched a movie, but exact same symptoms started today. Plays all Blu-Rays, Plays all Xbox One games and even plays backwards compatible Xbox 360
games which are on DVDs... (was enjoying Red Dead Redemption just yesterday) and boom... now every time I put in a regular DVD (and I've tried 5 or 6 so far) it loads the Blu-ray Player app screen... then goes to a black screen and does nothing, and the controller
will no longer work until I physically press the eject button and kick out the DVD, then it goes back to working normally. I too did hard resets, unplugged and held the power button for 30 seconds and rebooted, and even deleted the Blu-Ray app - reset - and
then reinstalled it and nothing helps. Anyone have an answer?!

Nope, none of those solutions are even close to this issue Mister Mascot.

This is some kind of new software bug, because it wasn't an issue up until the other day.

I can put in any game disc (Xbox 360 if backwards compatible) or Xbox One and they play just fine.

I've put in about 4 or 5 different Blu-Ray movies and they play just fine,

but if I put in any DVD movie, and these are all movies that I've played successfully before this week,

the Blu-Ray app loads (blue screen) and then everything goes black.

From here the console refuses to respond to any commands sent from the controller, including pressing the xbox button to go to the home screen. In short, once the screen goes black, the console is locked up unless you physically get up and press the disc
eject button. Once the DVD comes out, everything returns to normal.

 

This is happening to me as well so *** frustrating.

I tried all of the self help guides i could find and even resorted to re-setting my xbox with no results.

I left a rather colourful message on the blu-ray player app.

I hope this gets some attention soon.

We just attempted to play a DVD on the console we have and it seems to be working properly for us. Have you tried multiple DVD's Are Blu-ray movies working for you?

The other thing you could try is to use the DVD in another Xbox One console to see if the same thing happens on the other console.

 

Hi! I'm having the same problem as everyone else here with the exception that I can hear the DVD sound playing (my xBox one HDMI cable is connected to my sound system which outputs to the TV/Monitor). I am convinced that the problem started only since
the latest system update (August 24, 2016).

Having the same issue with DVDs not playing. Just wanted to let Mister Mascot know others have that problem.

Unfortunately it still isn't working for me.

Yes i have tried several DVD's some of which are brand new so have so no reason not to work.( don't own any Blu-ray's to test).

According to my friends none of them have experienced this on there Xbox's.

Additional the DVD's I'm trying to play used to play on my Xbox no problem :/

It stopped working after playing RedDead (backwards) could that cause any issues ?

 

LarkenB94 What did you do to fix it? I haven't tried since, but was planning on attempting to try again tonight when I get home. I saw you mentioned that it stopped working after you played Red Dead Redemption (backwards compat) and that just happened to
be the same game I had just installed onto my system the day before mine had issues as well, so there must have been a link between that and the DVD problem. So did it just start working again? Was there an update / patch downloaded for Red Dead Redemption
that fixed it? Going to try it again tonight and see what happens, but just curious what you may have done to fix it.

 

HI All. I am having this same problem. I am not sure what to do. I have read all the posts and trouble shooting has done no good.

Can someone give me some advice please. I know these are from years ago but i have not had my Xbox 1 for that long.
