    Problem Changing the Microsoft Account Associated with my XBox Live Profile


    The steps to do this are pretty well documented here:

    Error 0x8015402d | Microsoft Account Error | Xbox 360 Error

    However, when I try to do this I get stuck in a never-ending loop, without any error message:

    1. From Xbox 360, select "Change Microsoft Account"
    2. "Do you have another Microsoft account to switch to?" - Yes
    3. Enter the password for the current Microsoft account
    At this point, I am continually prompted for the password for the current Microsoft account.

    Note:

    • The password is correct - I have validated on a PC
    • No error message is displayed
    Any suggestions why I can't proceed an further please?

    Im having problems changing my email address associated with my xbox live profile.

    i spoke to someone last week about deleting and changing aliases on the microsoft account linked to my xbox live account.

    Hi there,

    have you set up Two step verification for one of those accounts? If so then you will need to set up a App password to be used on the 360 (instead of your account password)

    See this link for the steps:

    Not sure if that is the cause though.

    Important Do not delete your profile from any storage device before completing the steps below. Also, do not try to download your Xbox LIVE gamertag from Xbox LIVE.

    To fix this problem, you need to associate a valid Microsoft account with your Xbox LIVE gamertag. Here’s how:

    Change the Microsoft account (Windows Live ID) associated with your account

    1. When you get the “Windows Live ID associated with this account is not valid” error, select
      Change Windows Live ID.
    2. Select Continue.
    3. Type the email address of the Microsoft account (Windows Live ID) that you want to associate with your gamertag.
    4. Type the password that is associated with this Windows Live ID.
    5. Confirm that the Microsoft account information is correct.
    6. Accept the Xbox LIVE Terms of Use and Privacy Statement. If you select Decline, your changes will not be made.
    7. Complete the changes and then return to the Xbox dashboard.
    8. Sign in to Xbox LIVE with your gamertag.
    If you still can’t sign in, contact Xbox Support.
