    Privacy policy protects thieves?

My home was broken into at the end of july and my series X was stolen. Police weren’t able to do anything at the time but later i saw that my xbox was online with the app. I contacted microsoft support and (after a couple calls and several days) were able to give an I.P address to give to the police. It took a while to get the warrant but the police went to the location and searched the house. They didn’t find it and requested i get get an updated I.P address to aid their search. I’ve been calling for the last several days and all they can say is that “they can no longer give out that information” or “we have no way of tracking that” which doesn’t sit right with me as its something they already did. Was there a privacy change during the last month or do they just not care?

    :)

I'm sorry, but this is the law, and has always been the policy. Even the IP address should not have been given to you by the agent.

In order to access this information you need a legal subpoena, which only the police can get. They're the ones who have to handle it.

Fair. Thank you for the information. I’ll speak with the officer in charge of my case

My guess would be they didn't know, but I can't speak for phone support

See that makes a lot more sense. Why couldn’t they just tell me the police would have to subpoena the information?

Your privacy is our policy = lol

The quote does not say, protecting your privacy is our policy. That could be, they mean digging into your privacy is our policy, for all you know. IS that clarified :)
