Price difference US-EU is outrageous

So on the marketplace in the US games are 60$ while in Europe they are 70€ so for the same game Europeans have to pay 86,7$ (at current exchange rate)

I'm fine with them just changing the currency, but increasing the price by that much ?

It used to be that if a game was a certain price Europe would get it for the same aswell just a change of currency (we would still pay more because of exchange courses but it was the same price and more reasonable)

Also this is especially outrageous since it's a digital download, no shipping, distribution, disc manufacturing etc is required

XBOX One price inequality

There really isn't that much difference in price between the US and EU. The difference in the UK and Germany is less than $40.

The tax difference however is huge (and the US does not include tax in purchase price.) I think the UK tax rate is something like 20% and Germany is 19%. The EU (for some reason) likes to include taxes in the listed price. If you really want to compare
US prices to European prices, take out the VAT.

The price should be thought of as independent of taxes (after all, that is actually how much MSFT/stores are receiving for the Xbox One).

There are many things that play into that besides the taxes, though taxes is the main reason for price difference. Or at least that's how I see it.

 

Pricing is up to the different developers and publishers

One should remember there is all lot of content laws that are stricter in EU and asian countries its not just a difference in value but laws and licensing rights do affect content as they have to be adjusted

 

I refuse to buy digital content for this very reason. I worked for most of my life in the games industry, and when digital kicked off and they were all using the "we can sell it cheaper because we don't have distribution costs etc..." I knew it wouldn't
last, experience is a valuable thing with things like this. Once publishers knew that people would buy digital, it was only a matter of time before the marketing spiel got lost in the mist, and prices increased. The one thing I have learned in over 25 years
in the industry, is that publishers will lie through their teeth, if it suckers people in... and digital distribution really suckered people in.

I paid £42 for GTA V on physical disc on the Xbox One (in fact it was £32 with the discount vouchers I used as well)... how much is the digital version? £55, maybe more? When I'm done with GTA V, I will trade it in, and the game will have ended up costing
me no more than £20.

If people are stupid enough to pay 25% more, purely for convenience, and that's all it is, then I have no sympathy for them. Same as those who buy DLC, the gamers have dug their own grave I'm afraid. Buy physical, get your money's worth and retain some value
that you can use later on.
