Prexisting offline child account to Gold?

My 9 year old nephew has an offline Xbox 360 account. I'm trying to upgrade his current pre-existing account to an Xbox Live child account. Currently my nephew, nor his mother have Xbox live or Microsoft accounts. After attempting to figure this out myself,
to no avail, I did some digging and the consensus seems to be that this is impossible to upgrade a pre-existing child's Xbox account to a gold account and retain all the saved games, achievements, etc from his pre-existing offline account. Everything I've
seen was from roughly half a year ago, is this still the case? Will he just have to deal with losing all his work from the past two years?

If someone could please confirm or deny this, that'd be great. I'm getting sick of trying to figure this out.

If he's on a child account, you would have to create a new account. It's not possible to upgrade an offline child account to an online account.

Otherwise, you would follow these instructions -
support.xbox.com/.../offline-profile-to-gamertag

If she is on a child account, you would have to create a new online account from scratch. Offline child accounts cannot be converted to Live accounts.

 

Unfortunately, yes this is still the case. He can still use everything offline, but if he wants to play online, you will need to go through the steps of creating a new online child account.

Thanks for posting. The process of managing my children's accounts has been beyond an absolute nightmare of confusion. I'm restraining myself from an all out vent full of expletives. Any time one of my kids asks me to fix something on their account I groan
because I know I'm in for another two hour process from hell.

At this point I made a child's outlook.com account for him and associated it to my Hotmail address. The xbox won't accept it and sends me back to the website to make him an account .. and of course the account I made him already exists so I'm in this circular
patter of [Mod Removed]

At this point I'll just be making an adult account for my 7 year old and buying him live because I'm so angry.

 

I feel your pain, I literally spent two days trying to make a new child account (after coming to terns with the fact that all my nephews saved games and achievements couldnt transfer). I contacted customer service six seperate times and at every step of
the way was met with an error or an infinite loop of redirects. Apparently there is an issue this weekend on xboxs side of things that they are working on fixing. For anyone dealing with a child accounts sake I hope this is a one time thing. After roughly
14 hours of "on the clock" work dealing with forums customer service reps and the xbox website my nephew has a working xbox live child account where he must start all his saved games from scratch...

The process was ridiculous and if i didnt have two full days to devote to the issue I would have given ip as well and simply make an adult account for an underage kid as im sure countless are fired to do by this confiding and cumbersome process.

Fyi the most helpful rep said wait up to 24 hours wftet the accounts are linked to create the child accounts gamertag while xbox resolves some issues.
