    Preventing Xbox 360 Console Updates on a Child's Account


    I recently set up an Xbox Live Silver account for my son, which now complements my Xbox Live Gold account on the same console. His profile is located on a memory card that he transfers back and forth between the upstairs console (the one I use) and a downstairs
    one for kids only. I gave him a silver membership after his memory card partially broke and I was afraid his profile was lost. With a Live membership his profile is now backed up on the cloud rather than stored only locally so his achievements won't be lost
    in the case of a memory card failure.

    My issue is how do I prevent his profile from being asked to download Xbox 360 system updates when he signs on and one is available? I'm nervous that he might get inpatient during the installation process and inadvertently turn the machine on or off at
    the wrong time. (Say when the machine itself is rebooting as part of the normal installation process.) I don't mind if he is forced to play offline during those times. I just don't want him *** up the console during a system update and FUBARing the entire
    thing. Is there a way to configure his account to accomplish my goal? His account is "normal" account, not a "child" account if that matters. Or is there a better setup to accomplish my cloud backup goal that I should use instead and cancel his Xbox Silver
    account?

    Minecraft 360 Child Account Online Game Not Available

    This is a bit of a doozy...and I am entirely flabbergasted. As the title states, my child's XBox Gamertag cannot play Minecraft online on the 360, but my account can play online just fine. Just a quick rundown...

    I also have Minecraft for XBox One, and my child's account can play online just fine on that.

    I have XBox Live Gold, and my child's account is linked to mine.

    My XBox 360 is set to 1080p.

    My child's privacy settings are set to allow for online play.

    All content restrictions are off.

    Please, for the love of god, does anyone have any suggestions?

    Just change your privacy settings on the Xbox 360. You might have a child's account that's why.

    You can disconnect it from the internet, but that's the only option.

    Otherwise, you can't block updates from occurring as they're required to sign into Xbox LIVE. If you deny the update, you're denying yourself access to Xbox LIVE.

    I understand that I need to download updates to Xbox Live to successfully sign in to Live. I just wanted to know if there was a way to restrict the updating process to just my account. That way when my son signs in and it wants to do an update he is denied
    Xbox Live for a few hours until I can get home and do the update myself. Think of it like a temporary ban from Live until someone "responsible" is around to do the update. Based on your initial comment I assume this type of functionality is not available.
    It might be something you want to consider for a future update. Basically have a "master" account that has admin privilages and then "basic" accounts that get temporarly banned from Live until the update is applied by the "master" account.

    By any chance is your account a child account? The reason I ask is because this error message means that the Microsoft account that you're trying to use to download the 360 games doesn't have the ability to do so.

    Child and teen accounts are prevented from making purchases in the Xbox 360 Marketplace. This includes 360 titles from the Xbox one. Changing your Microsoft account age or your purchase settings won't resolve this issue.

    To resolve this issue, purchase or download the content on your Xbox 360 console.

    This error means that the Microsoft account that you're trying to use to make the purchase doesn't have the ability to make the purchase.
