Preserving my gamertag

I am going to be away for 2 years. When I get back I will be using xbox live again. Is it possible for someone in that time to "steal" my gamertag? And if so, is there any way to ensure that I will have that same Gamertag when I return?

If you recently purchased the gold membership for this account, you can try calling support to see if they can cancel the gold on that account and give you a code to use on the other account.

Hi,

I recently joined Live -- took me forever to get internet access -- and for some reason I had to create a whole new profile, instead of just being able to use the profile I had created originally. I don't remember why this was.

Anyway, my old, not-connected-to-Live profile has a gamerscore of over 20,000, and I'd kinda like to keep that. I understand that nothing can be moved between profiles, so I'd like to know how I can disconnect(?) this profile from my live account and connect
the other one, if possible.

Nope MS doesn't purge tags until after 7 years of inactivity.

 

There is no seven year release for gamertags, in fact there is no time frame at all for the release of gamertags.

 

It's your account. Forever......

The only way to lose it would be to give personal information to other people.
