    preparing for the worst

Looking for a little guidance here guys....

Iv had 2 xboxs, a 360 and now have a 360 elite. On my first xbox i got the red ring of death. According to the dude in the repair shop the hard drive died so i lost everything. Not something i wish to happen again. Iv had the Elite for over 2 years now without
any issues . All is good so far. I just dont want to lose all of my save games/downloads as i wouldnt know where to start in order to get all of this stuff back (as iv heard you can).

1 - Is there a way i can backup my entire profile which includes game saves & xbox live downloads?

2 - I was in a computer game shop and watched a member of staff download his xbox profile and then played online.

    How do i do this?

When using the profile on another xbox do your saved games come with it?

3 - On my first 360 i used one of those transfer cables to get everything over to my elite but lets say for example..... my xbox and the hard drive completely died, I went out and bought a new xbox 360 today, How would i get my profile/game saves/live downloads
onto the new one? What can i do to ensure i can keep everything i have now ready to just place everything onto a new xbox should the worst happen?

Any help would be much appreciated

    :)

  3. So Thief is not 1080p.

All you do is quote statistics and numbers. It must be boring to be you. Sitting there, counting the frames. Looking for 1080p vs 720p. Preparing a statement every time the screen tears or you have a split second delay. That is the worst gaming experience
    I can possibly imagine.

    For storage go here:
    www.xbox.com/.../storage

You can recover your profile to most any 360, but it does not bring anything stored on your HD with it.

As far as your downloads, you can redownload pretty much everything by going into your DL history.

You should know that you should only use an authorized service center for xbox repairs.

  6. MADurks,

You will have nothing to worry about, don't worry. These steps will resolve your problem to back upyour Game Saves, don't worry about saving your profile as it is actually stored on the server to be able to be re-downloaded, and the games you have purchased
can easily be re-downloaded without having to back them up. This post will will be very detailed to follow each step in preparing to back up game saves or any game data you wish to keep.

We'll start with backing up the Game Saves/Game Data.

    1. Let's start at the Dashboard, you should see tabs at the top on the dashboard showing in this order - "bing, home, social, games, tv & movies, music, apps, settings" Please move either your Right Bumper or left analogue stick to the right until you reach
the 'settings' tab. Once you have reached the settings tab you willsee 'System, Profile, Preferences, Kinect, Account, Privacy, Family, Turn Off' - Go ahead and click on 'System

    2. It should now display 8 options. 'Console Settings, Kinect Settings, Storage, Network Settings, Computers, TV, Xbox Live Vision, Initial Setup' - Go ahead and click on 'Storage' and then click on 'Hard Drive'.

    3. You will see t the top of the selection 'Games and Apps' now this should be the only one you want to back up for Game Saves and Game data, so go ahead and click on Games and Apps.

Example of how to back-up a Game Save.

For example if you have a game on your Hard Drive called 'A World Of Keflings' it would appear in the list. So I would click on that in the list to see a file saying 'AutoSave - 11/29/2013 05:30 pm (Saved Game) once you have clicked on your Game Save there
should be an option saying 'Copy'and you will have the ability to select Cloud Saved Games as a way of storing it online in addition to your hard drive. This can also be done for game data such as a Map Variant you might have made on a Halo game for example.
It still come under the category of Saved Game, so you will also be able to click on those individual files as well and just copy it directly to your 'Cloud Saved' Games

Once you have done that, and you have your new console to recover your games.

On the dashboard like before go to 'Settings' tab but this time click on 'Account' You should see an option titled 'Download History' and upon viewing your download history you will be able to download any Games, Gamerpictures, DLC you have previously bought
on your old xbox. (Note that if you switch to a different account from the account that bought the content, you will be required to do a license transfer. If you are planning on using another account too, please click License transfer, and it will update your
licenses of your content to your new console' If you have already started downloading first before using the License Transfer then you will need to go through each Game, Gamerpicture, or DLC and queue them up for download again so it can get updated. I recommend
doing the License Transfer before initiating any downloads as it will just be a much longer process for you. If you have recently done a license transfer it may not let you use it again for a few monthgs. It will also display when you will be able to use it
    again.

Downloading your profile could not be easier. When you first start up the console that will have no profiles/games/gamerpictures/music/DLC on it, it will ask you to choose an account to sign in, and as it will be a fresh new hard drive there will not be
any profiles on it, prompting to give you the option to Download Profile. Go ahead and click on that and you will then just have to enter in your Microsoft Account e-mail address associated with your Gamertag/Account and quite simply the password to sign into
it. If you have forgot your E-mail address then I recommend coming out of the Download History/License Transfer in 'Account' and then navigate to the right until you see 'Account Security'. This is all done in the 'Settings > Account' section, and to your
right you should see 'Current Microsoft Account: *** Die E-Mail-Adresse wurde aus Datenschutzgründen entfernt. ***' That will be your current associated e-mail address with your gamertag. Make note of your e-mail address on a bit of paper for when you will be downloading your profile to the new console. If you
have forgotten your password you can retrieve it quite simply by going to
    http://account.live.com
and follow the relevant steps to reset your password through the link 'Forgot password' upon having to enter in your e-mail address.

If you further have any more questions in regards to Backing Up/Downloading profile/Recovering Purchased Games then feel free to message me back and I will try to help with what ever you may have to ask. If I cannot help you on this then your best option
will be to go to Xbox One Support | Xbox 360 Support | Xbox Live and Billing Support where you will be able to browse for a resolution or get direct chat support with an Agent who would be able to better assist. You can also phone up Xbox, what ever
preference you choose you should get the resolution you're hoping for.

Let me know how you get on!

    Thanks,

    Daniel

I know its taken a long time for me to reply but thanks guys. This is a big help.

I do have a second issue. As stated i had copied everything from my 1st xbox to my elite via transfer cable, mainly for the music i had stored on there. I have tracks on my xbox that 1 - i can no longer find 2 - disc is damaged 3 - music i have personally
made which was lost a long time ago. Is there a way in which i can get my music off the hard drive so i can put it back on later?

Iv googled it but everyone seems to be saying the same thing......"No you cant". I have figured out a way but it means connecting my xbox to my laptop to record the tracks 1 by 1 which will take a HUGE amount of time. Is there a way i can access my music
files and just simply copy them to a hard drive/usb/other computer? Why the option to copy save games/data excluding music is beyond me. Makes no sense.

Recently my xbox has been having problems so i need to get my music off before something dies. Iv been having problems downloading free xboxlive games (says its downloaded but hasnt). Playing halo Reach the draw distance/pop in/sound effects/music sometimes
are taking there time loading. Sometimes parts of the maps are glitching/flickering. Playing GTA 5 sometimes the graphics show white lined edges around some models. Signing in can also sometimes be a bit of a drag. Any advice would be much appreciated and
thanks again for your reply's everyone.

I've never had to do anything like that with music, but if it doesn't give you an option to copy or move the tracks, it's most likely to do with how the music tracks are licensed to work. Mainly to keep it so you can't copy it and pass it out to other people.
I know movies and TV shows have that kind of licensing restriction on them.

Xbox files are not meant to be seen via the PC. So you would be violating the terms of service if you were to transfer them to a PC.

  9. That's the problem with game saves vs music. Like Smwutches said regarding licensing and restrictions, best thing I could suggest is buy them discs in a shop cheap or online like amazon or something, probably the ideal way Tha copyright infringement/violations.
It's a bit of a pain but I am in the same boat. I am still yet to buy new music cds as I have had to replace my 2 year old out of warranty xbox.

    Hope you get that sorted!
