Prepaid Visa problems/warning

I managed to grab a $10 and a $5 visa in the last restock, and attempted to use them on Amazon to buy Amazon topups, however both purchases failed because Amazon places a pre-authorization charge on new cards. Because these are prepaid debit cards, that
charge made the available balance drop below the purchase amount, so the payment was declined. Should be no problem as this pre-auth charge is only done the first time you use a new card, and is returned to the account immediately once the card is confirmed
as valid.

Except for both cards, it wasn't.

Prepaiddigitalsolutions.com's FAQ page is useless, and they've not responded to any of my support tickets. I went to Swift Prepaid Solutions and mailed them as they operate prepaiddigitalsolutions, and eventually they did get back to me only to tell me to
file a dispute/fraud form, which I'd have to do by mail or fax, and which can take up to 120 days while they investigate, during which time the card will be frozen, so not much use really and they don't have a section on that form that properly covers my situation
anyway. After replying to their email saying this, they told me that for security reasons I'd need to call them. Except they're in the US and I'm in the UK, so it'll cost me more than the charges are worth.

At this point I'm probably just going to cut my losses and use the remaining balance (I'm down $1.36/£1 on each card) to buy that Amazon topup, but thought I'd give a heads up what a nightmare it's been trying to use these damned cards...

Gold subscription does not except prepaid cards.edit

Not sure how in 2016, you don't use debit or credit cards but that's just me.

Anyway, could someone else confirm if using prepaid VISAs work or not? You could always go to gamestop or bestbuy, use your prepaid VISA card on a subscription xbox live card. That should work. Perhaps order a digital code on amazon with your prepaid VISA. I'm pretty sure they accept it.

I have used prepaid visa/mastercards in the past and they have worked. I never tried for a gold sub though because I would never pay full retail price for a gold sub
