Prepaid code problems

I entered a 7 day trial on xbox one and I confirmed it and it worked fine. Then when I try to join a party or play a game online it takes me to the option to buy a gold membership.

Need help redeeming my xbox live code

I tried redeeming the code in my browser on my computer using these instructions, big mistake. It said "thank you, you redeemed your code" and then exited me out. No gamertag registration whatsoever. I thought the whole point of redeeming my code was to create a gamer tag, but no just exits me out. I then tried redeeming my code on my xbox (so that I could create the gamer tag) and it said "sorry, code already redeemed."

so what the... what do I do now?

I redeemed two 7 day free trials with my new xbox one today from the games COD: Ghosts and Forza 5, it says that I own them, but when I go to play online it wants me to upgrade to gold. But shouldn't my free trials work, how do I get them to work. Thankyou
