Preowned games?

Hi all this is my first ever Xbox and like it so far. I have a question about going to the stores and buying a prepared game. If I bought a used game can I play it online or how does That work? Tried to read up on it cant find what I'm looking for. Any negatives
buying used games? Thanks.

Perhaps ill buy that one really quick as well. Gamestop still wants 14.99 preowned making it 80% cheaper than the preowned price.

 

A used game plays just as a new game there are no negatives, aside from the disc maybe being scratched and having problems loading

 

Once you buy the game you install it and its yours to play however you see fit.

The only negative about used games is that the developers get ***. Buy new if you can.

Unfortunately, in 2015 you won't be able to find any "prepared" games. Everything that gets released is in an unprepared state.

 

Strange thing is, on quite a few occasions I've been browsing in my local GAME store and I've seen pre-owned copies of games selling for more than the same game brand new.

The most recent one a month or so back was Forza Horizon 2, they had an offer on it for a new copy which was £34.99, a pre-owned copy was £39.99 lol

I actually asked the guy behind the counter and he said it was just how they were priced on their system but agreed it made no sense :/

 

Yea and Ford get stuffed every time someone buys a used car........

cars are a bad example. A car is a physical item sold at a profit. when ford sells a car for 15k, the cost was probably 10k if not less. they made a profit on it. Games cost millions to make, lots of times over 100 million, and are not sold, but instead
a license is sold which is permission to use the software. you then resell that license back to a company, who resells it again to another consumer. So for still makes money off 1 sale, but game devs don't make money until they sell roughly millions of copies
depending on the budget.

 

^^ Maybe it wouldn't happen as much if they stopped selling a hot broken mess every other game.

 

Technically not all pre-owned games will allow you to play the online mode. I know 2K and EA will often make you pay for an online pass in some of their games. Mainly sports games will require you to pay $10 or so to get an online pass to play pre-owned
games online. But other than that, many other games have the online modes as usual.

 

I never ran into that problem butting ore owned sports games...

 

Game Devs have sales forecasts just like any other largish company once those sales targets are met all costs etc and predicted targets are met (if the game sells well) Someone buying a used disc does nothing to effect those predictions. Either a game
sells or it doesnt, most sales for a major release are pre ordered or bought in the first weeks of release.

Plus used games actually generate new sales, there are plenty of titles I bought on the 360 on the strength of buying a used title and liking it then buying the sequel new on release. A personal example would be Assasins Creed, I bought the first one second
hand as i wasnt sure about it and was NEVER going to buy it new (NEVER) I took a punt on a secondhand copy and loved it and have purchasedevery single title since brand new. So that second hand copy that stole the bread from the devs mouth then paid for
the champagne in subsequent years.

Game publishers dont just decide to make and distribute XXXXXX amount of copies and hope for the best, they forecast sales and keep costs within those parameters to hit expected profits. Any company involved in sales that didnt operate in this way wouldnt
last very long. So sorry I dont buy the used sales hurts Devs baloney. Im sure Cliff has had to downgrade his Ferrari cos of all the used copies of Gears that have been sold over the years.....

 

The publishers and developers are doing just fine with the amount of DLC and season passes they sell. If they keep releasing broken games and keep rushing them out the door without taking quality into consideration they will be in trouble. The industry as
a whole could possibly crash. It has happened before.
