Preorder Billing

If you pay with your Microsoft account balance, they will charge you immediately. But one thing to keep in mind with that is, if you decide you don't want the game later or you want a different edition, you have to go through the regular refund process instead of just cancelling and you only have 14 days to do so.

Preorders bill 10 days before the games release. If it was declined it was because there wasn't enough to cover it. Only prepaid codes bill instantly when it comes to preorders.

It's not a glitch. When you preorder a game with a credit card, you're not billed until about 10 days before the game is released. So your preordered would be cancelled once they are unable to bill you.

for digital preorders, your account get billed when the game is released.
