Thank you. But like I've already said, I have submitted feedback there already and am waiting on a message that says "Your idea is being processed and will appear shortly."

I'll also update when it becomes available.

I'd hope that when you have the game preloaded it would treat a day one patch like any other update and automatically start the download as soon as it becomes available so it will at least be started if not most of the way complete or finished by the time
you want to play. This would be especially good for people who may work all day and can't play on release day until later at night.

Also, how many games these days come complete on the disk. I understand that the disk is faster but there's always a download that goes along with it.

A preload would take care of that by just downloading all of the games files and the system would merely be waiting for proof of license such as putting the disk in the drive.

After all, the disk doesn't do any more than act as a license after the initial install anyway.

That would be useful considering most games still have an additional Download on top of moving data from the disk.

So here's a quick update. I have submitted the idea twice and both times moderators removed it without a trace. As in it won't even show up under my previous activity list anymore. So I guess no one is even going to get to vote on it.

    Hi there,

I don't see this as a feasible option, as you either go for one, or the other. Proving someone has purchased a game, without cancelling their pre-order, is only the beginning of the negatives.

I too, like owning physical copies of games, but do see the draw of digital games. It's a decision you have to make.

    Best,

I keep seeing this argument and it seems that people forget that the system checks for a license when you boot up a game.

It checks to see if your account has a license for that game and it checks to see if theres a disk in the drive.

If there is no disk in the drive it wont launch the game because the disk is the license.

If you pre ordered digitally and cancelled your order it revokes that license and therefore wont launch the game.

You either have a license (whether it be physical or digital) or you don't. If either of those two criteria arent filled when you try to launch a game the system already shows you an error message that you do not have permission to play the game. This is
remedied by going to the store and paying for it or by inserting a disk.

Go ahead and try this by trying to launch a game that you have a physical copy of without the disk inserted. Since you don't have your disk inserted it wont let you play and since you have not purchased it digitally and has no association with your account
it wont let you play it. So the game is installed but unplayable until the system detects proof of license.

Also once the game is installed the disc does nothing but act as a license.

Edit: It would simply have to be a game files download that does not grant a license. Or at the very least the files that can't be supplied by the disk. Because there are always extra files to download when installing a game.

Earlier in the thread i explaind how this is already possible in a round about way.

Now I'm obviously not one of the people who are able to make this kind of decision so maybe there's some legal or technical reason that I'm not aware of that prevents this but lets just say there aren't for the sake of argument.

Why are people so against this? What do you gain or lose by allowing everyone to preload? Why prevent something that would be an improvement to so many users?

In the end it's the same game that requires a download either way it's purchased but one way gives a license to the account that bought it and the other gives a disk (aka license) to another. It uses the same files and has to download some of the same files
    either way.

Edit: New games like Fallout 76 have been reported to only actually use about 200MB of the data from the disk and requires the rest of the game files (50+GB) to be downloaded anyway.

Physical copies are mainly beneficial to collector. They basically only get a glorified license key. In the end they still need the same download...

I guess let me try to explain this differently. I realise the license for a digital copy is attached to a user account. I also realize that with a physical copy the disc is the license.

Now there are a few scenarios here I have in mind which I have had experience with.

Scenario 1a. A friend comes over with their physical disc. Installs the game, then leaves with the game. Result: game files installed but i cant play because I don't have the game purchased digitally and/or dont have the physical copy to put in the drive.

Scenario 1b. Friend comes over. Downloads their profile to my Xbox. Download a game. End of the day they remove their account from my Xbox. Result: Game is still installed but I can not play because I don't have the game purchased digitally and/or don't
have the physical copy to put in the drive.

Scenario 2. Game access is offered through Xbox free play days. I download the game. Play it for a couple days. Then the free play offer expires. Result: Game is still installed but i can not play it because I don't have the game purchased digitally and/or
don't have the physical copy to put in the drive.

All of these are examples of the game being downloaded and the system waiting for some form of license verification.

Im just thinking let everyone preload whether it be for slow internet, convenience, etc. The system will still check for a valid license on request to boot the game. (Disk or account association) If you dont have either it's a no go.
