Preload feature for people that order physical copies

Im saying let everyone preload it. They cant boot the game anyway unless theres a digital license attached to their account or until they put the game disk in the drive. It will always check for one of the two forms of license.

However, this would only save a small bit of time (network), as Disc downloads are usually pretty fast.

 

I guess let me try to explain this differently. I realise the license for a digital copy is attached to a user account. I also realize that with a physical copy the disc is the license.

Now there are a few scenarios here I have in mind which I have had experience with.

Scenario 1a. A friend comes over with their physical disc. Installs the game, then leaves with the game. Result: game files installed but i cant play because I don't have the game purchased digitally and/or dont have the physical copy to put in the drive.

Scenario 1b. Friend comes over. Downloads their profile to my Xbox. Download a game. End of the day they remove their account from my Xbox. Result: Game is still installed but I can not play because I don't have the game purchased digitally and/or don't
have the physical copy to put in the drive.

Scenario 2. Game access is offered through Xbox free play days. I download the game. Play it for a couple days. Then the free play offer expires. Result: Game is still installed but i can not play it because I don't have the game purchased digitally and/or
don't have the physical copy to put in the drive.

All of these are examples of the game being downloaded and the system waiting for some form of license verification.

Im just thinking let everyone preload whether it be for slow internet, convenience, etc. The system will still check for a valid license on request to boot the game. (Disk or account association) If you dont have either it's a no go.

How will it be implemented?

How are you going to verify beforehand that you pre-ordered a physical copy so you can start pre-loading the game files?¥

 

It wouldnt matter since it checks for a license anyway. Its not like people who didnt buy the game in one form or another would be able to play it without a license

Imho...this idea is very good! I live in a country where the most diffuse download bandwith it's 10MB/s ( i'm not joking ) and this idea will be very useful!

 

I'd like to see this feature implemented, and I for one would definitely be using it.

 

I think it’s a good idea so you don’t come home from the store and have to wait for the game to install from the disc and then fetch a day 1 update as well.

 

I honestly think its a brilliant idea.

 

I would say that this seems like a very niche request...installs from disc are relatively fast already! The issue is with day-one patches that come into play, that's what eats bandwidth and consumes time.

Usually I don't have bandwith issues and I don't care too much if I can't play a game a few minutes after release but I understand that some people could appreciate this opportunity

 

I do agree with you but I don't see it working there would be many issues regarding licencing.

I loved to collect my game I still have all my Sega, PS1, PS2 & Xbox 360 games. But have gone all digital now just for ease due to Day 1 patches can really ruin a day with a slow download speed
