    I sort of agree with D33dles. If MS do go into next gen which I'm not so sure they will I can definitely see them going the Steam Machine approach. I see Sony definitely making a new console. Gaming is where they make most of their money I think. Same with
    Nintendo. I do not have a good feeling about Nintendo's next console.

    I think handheld gaming consoles like the 3DS will die off. They'll have one more gen and that's it. I could be wrong though. I have a Galaxy S5 and games look good on it, but they aren't as fun because using a touch screen is nowhere near as fun as buttons
    and an analog stick. If they do die off it won't be because of mobile gaming.

    I think VR will take off and only get better and better so I think depending on how well it does, that will influence when 9th gen kicks in.

    I do not see the ONE or PS4 lasting as long as the 360 and PS3.

    I think they will most likely start planning stages around 2018/19 and release a new one between 2020/21, which would be an ok point to release a new system, hopefully by then the worlds economic woes will be subsiding.

    I don't think I really care as long as I can buy a box and play games on it, haha, whether that be on a different platform or not, we'll see.

    Gaming and consoles are just to big to die off. The only way consoles would die off this gen, is if everyone suddenly moved to PC gaming......and that ain't going to happen because the average person can't afford or just doesn't want the hassle that comes
    with PC gaming.

    Electro, you need to be careful - the sky may fall on your head. ;P

    The current consoles were both designed to last 10 years, so that's where we're headed I think. A new console may come out before then (say around year 8), but the XB1 and PS4 will still be chugging along. ;)

    console gaming isn't dying out, the X1 is still outpacing the 360 sales at this stage of the life cycle, and the PS4 is doubling that, as long as they put out the games, i can see these consoles easily lasting another 7-8 years.
