Predictions for 9th gen

I don't think this 8th generation will last for very long. I'm predicting the NX to come out either next year or 2017, then I'm predicting the PS5 and a possible new Xbox console to come out in either 2018 or 2019.

What are your prediction release dates of 9th gen consoles? Feel free to share your honest opinions.

I agree with Elohmn 100%. Bring on the 9th gen. I'm ready.

 

Console gaming will die out all together with current gen.

 

console gaming isn't dying out, the X1 is still outpacing the 360 sales at this stage of the life cycle, and the PS4 is doubling that, as long as they put out the games, i can see these consoles easily lasting another 7-8 years.

how do you come to the conclusion that console gaming will die out with this gen, when more people are buying consoles and games than ever before, i think your going a little crazy to even think that nevermind say it out loud!!!

 

Electro, you need to be careful - the sky may fall on your head. ;P

The current consoles were both designed to last 10 years, so that's where we're headed I think. A new console may come out before then (say around year 8), but the XB1 and PS4 will still be chugging along.

Xbox game consoles are doing well, so since the Xbox One is currently 2 years old, I say it has about 8 more years left in the tank before the new Xbox console is released

Fragmenting your user base would be an epic disaster and mistake. Spencer won't make that mistake.

 

I see Microsoft taking a modified Steam Machine approach for the next console, such as making a dedicated set specs box with all games being cross-platform with P.C.. I see both Sony and Microsoft announcing new systems 2018, while Nintendo (As we know it.)
not existing.

Nintendo's been around for well over 100 years (it's true - look it up); it's not going anywhere...

 

Sega was old when it died in the hardware space. lol I'm really hoping the Nintendo NX thing is going to be a gimmicky toy to enrapture casuals.

Some crazy VR/AR-driven livingroom toy that grandads will break hips playing, as AR-Princess Peach giggles on a nearby sofa, and like the Wii and its motion controls, everyone will own, but will rarely, if ever, play.

Nintendo's handhelds are gonna die a death, and Mario, Fox McCloud and co. will find lucrative homes for Nintendo on iOS and Android.

I think MS and Sony are gonna keep on trucking with what they have for a while yet. MS has put way too much effort into setting the Xbox One on a good path to ease off any time soon. The Spencer promise of first-party focus is sweet. There's untapped potential
in the cloud, Windows cross-play, Windows VR with Oculus. Oculus meeting cloud, meeting high-end VR on Xbox One, maybe.

If Nintendo's thingy isn't going to be a gimmicky VR, thingy, Sony will be pretty much uncontested in the VR space on console for 2016. That could be huge for them. But according to Carmack the PS4 needs more power, so who knows, maybe Sony will bundle up
some meatier PS4's with Playstation VR. Generation 8 and half, rather than generation 9. {}

 

To all those who think that the future of gaming entertainment is somehow written in stone as a viable, or even profitable market long into the forseeable future, remember.

Gaming and consoles are just to big to die off. The only way consoles would die off this gen, is if everyone suddenly moved to PC gaming......and that ain't going to happen because the average person can't afford or just doesn't want the hassle that comes
with PC gaming.
