Pre paid voucher not working even though status are "up and running"

I bought a pre paid 25 pound voucher thing, i redeemed it and tried to buy some more gold membership as i had run out and the xbox refused to accept the money demanding a credit card payment

Actually I have found that using a pre-paid card actually does switch off AUTO RENEWAL. I was on month by month xbox live before and then used a 1 month pre-paid voucher. After that I didn't really play online for 2 months. My account reverted to a silver
account.

Also it does state in your Account management that AUTO RENEWAL is off. I have found that this only works with 1month, 3month and 12month pre-paid gold. 48-hour trials don't seem to work.

I did find that article on the pre-paid errors but it worked for me just a couple of weeks ago, so when I check the status on their website I found it weird that it didn't work even when all seemed fine according to the status page.

But what did help was redeeming through the Xbox app.

get a refund on the disc, buy xbox store credit (pre paid voucher) to the value of the game, he can then purchase that game digitally when you give him it as a gift.
