    for say 30seconds.

Xbox 360 Three Flashing lights problem - Solutions

If your Original Xbox 360 console or power supply experiences any hardware failure, three of the four lights surrounding your power button might flash red.

To determine the problem, turn on the console and check out the light on the power supply.

***If you see the green light on the power supply, you console needs to be repaired.

***If the light on your power supply is red, orange or there is no light, follow the steps bellow:

    Step 1

You need to check your power supply cable.

    Here is how:

    • First, you need to unplug the cords from the back of your console, the power supply, and the wall outlet.
    • Now plug the power cords firmly back into your console, the power supply, and the wall outlet.
    • You have to plug your console directly into a wall outlet. Never use a surge protector or an extension cord.
    • Finally, press the power button on your console.
If the lights still flash red, follow the next step.

    Step 2

    Use a different wall outlet

The wall outlet you are using might be problematic. To check this, you can try a wall outlet in another room.

    Here is how:

    • First you need to unplug the power supply from the console and wall outlet.
    • Then take your console and power supply to another room.
    • Now reconnect the power supply cable to your console and the wall outlet.
    • You must ensure that all of the power supply connections are firmly secured.
    • Finally, press the power button to check out
If your console turns on and the light on your power supply is green, the problem is solved. So, there is a problem at the previous outlet. Never plug your console back into that outlet until it is inspected and fixed.

But if the problem still exists, follow the next step.

    Step 3

The power supply might have overheated. It should be cooled down.

    Here is how:

    • First, you need to unplug the power supply from the console and the wall outlet.
    • You have to wait at least 30 minutes to let the power supply cool.

Note: The power supply should be in a well-ventilated space, and the ventilation openings on the power supply should not be covered.
    • After cooling it down, reconnect the power supply to your console and plug it back into the wall outlet.
    • You must ensure all of the connections are firmly secured.
    • Finally, press the power button.
If the three lights still flash red, follow the next step.

    Step 4

You should replace the power supply. You can order a replacement Xbox 360 power supply from Xbox Online Service Center. Your console must be registered to replace a power supply under warranty.

    Power supply ?

Hello the official recommendation of Microsoft is to plug it directly into the power supply.

I personally have mine plugged into a surge protected power bar and never had any issues with it.

    Hi there,

like mentioned by gds1972 the support pages recommend not using a surge protector because as far as I know there is already one build in the power supply.

Regarding the light staying on for 30 seconds, that is caused by some power still present inside the power supply etc when disconnected and since a led light consumes very little power it will stay on for some time. The same thing occurs with my console
and also happens with our TV, nothing to worry about.

  6. Have they changed the power supply since released date. One of my friend have have had his Xbox one since realeased date and when he unplugs his power supply and plugs it back his makes a sound like the fan is coming on and color goes white to orange, but
mine I just bought 1 week ago has no sound or fan coming on just goes to orange light

Not that I know, but I have seen people experience different fan sound levels, maybe his is just a bit louder.

Regarding the light, since there is a surge protecter in the power supply, his could just do something more when connected to power.

I personally wouldn't worry about it Power supply ? :)

  8. Power supply ?

Is it normal for the power supply to get hot

It's normal for it to run warm when you say "hot" dose it burn you to touch it? Or is it just hot in general within you being able to touch it.It dose have a fan and capacitors in the power brick the capacitor explains why the light stay orange for 30 sec
    mine dose that as well.

Also do you have the Xbox One on Energy Saving mode or set to Instant On? If it is on Instant On after you shutdown the Xbox it goes into a lower power consumption mode to look for updates and so it boots faster but the light will stay white if you have
it on Instant On this will also cause the power brick to stay warmer. But it should run warmer when the Xbox is on playing games or using apps etc.

Would it be possible for you to tell us if it is a Xbox Product or a Third Party Device

I recently got the Elite Bundle and the power supply that was in the box did not seem any different from the Day One Xbox Power supply I used.

Also have a look at these two pages hopefully they can shed some light on the issue.

  14. It's the official one. It says to plug power supply direct to wall, but let's be realistic who has more then 1 wall outlet. TV, Xbox, internet modem, laptop , ect

I completely agree with you on that, plug it into a surge protector makes it easier due to all the devices people now have. As this mentions "Official recommendation of Microsoft is to plug it directly into the power supply" take note that its a "recommendation"
and not mandatory and I believe that the PSU has a surge protector within it.

As in earlier post some people do have it plugged directly into the wall outlet and some don't. Mine is directly plugged into the wall outlet. So you can try to use the power bar it might work just, but if you start to have issues
like lag, freezing, or crashing to the Dashboard. Then I would recommend a wall outlet.

Hope this helps you can always continue to post on this this thread if you have problems or you can also use
support.xbox.com/ and look through the official recommendations, or Contact Xbox Support directly.

    Cheers
