Power Supply Xbox One

Obviously the power supply part of the Xbox One was designed to overheat very quickly and after few years meant to break because you can't open it without special equipment to clean out the dust. So you're either forced to buy a new one or buy a new Xbox
One X. Seems like Microsoft is copying the business strategies of Apple. Way to go folks! Bravo....!

What I read here is it takes months to order it from MS directly, also with bad support on the side - so, no thanks Microsoft.

The power supply should always have a light on it.

Orange light on power supply/no light on Xbox One = Xbox One is off

White light on power supply/no light on Xbox One = Xbox One is in standby (charge controllers, download updates, etc.)

White light on power supply/white light on Xbox One = Xbox One is on

That is the norm

That being said xbox one a and higher don't use power bricks

Pretty sure you can buy power bricks from your local etailer like Amazon or retailer

Unless you mean the internal power supply

No those aren't meant to overheat

If you however block the vent holes it will overheat regardless of which console you have

It's not meant for the carpet

If it is the internal unit you must call for warranty if in warranty or out of warranty replacement or buy a new one

No products allow you to open their products that's a safety xlconcern

 

Obviously it was NOT designed to overheat "quickly", as the power supply from my Day One console from November 2013 is still working flawlessly. No overheating issue with my power supply or console itself.

Maybe you just put the power supply in an unusually dusty space.

While I can understand your frustration, you should also know that every electronics device will cease to work properly if you use it carelessly, like for example having it on the floor behind a shelf where dust accumulates, or using it in an environment
that is dustier than "normal".

You can try to use a can of compressed air to blow into the power supply while having a vacuum set to the lowest setting on the other end, trying to get the dust out of the device.

Also, a power supply has capacitors and parts that can keep mains level voltage for several minutes, even after you pulled the plug. So to prevent people from opening the power supply and accidentally touching high voltage parts, the power supply is not
easy to open by the average user.

It's not Microsoft trying to be Apple, it's Microsoft trying to keep people from fatally shocking themselves to an electric death.

If you're really hell bent on opening your power supply, be aware of the fatal voltage inside the power supply, even after you pulled the plug. And all you need to actually open the power supply is a simple T10 security Torx screwdriver bit.

So I recon it's not that hard to open it.
