Discus and support power brick, how hot??? in XBoX on Consoles to solve the problem; so i was worried playing halo 5 the other night after i had a CTD... so i happened to put my hand on the power brick and i actually pulled it away...     so i was worried playing halo 5 the other night after i had a CTD... so i happened to put my hand on the power brick and i actually pulled it away kinda fast at first because it felt "that" hot... granted it wasn't able to burn me or melt, but i was so shocked
    at the temp at first and that's why i pulled my hand away...

    then i checked the top of the XB1 and felt some heavy heat coming out, i now know it's meant to be that way, i just recently started getting heavily into XB1 so haven't had much XP with the system and its heat etc...

    how hot should the power brick feel? is it possible the fan in it is dead? because when halo 5 crashed that night i then played the new tomb raider and kept hearing "ticking"... i was near a fire in game and at first thought it was game audio... then i put
    my hand on power supply and it was hot so i turned off the system...

    also, how loud should the fan in the brick be? i read here on the support page that you would hear a "whir" as the system started up...

    was that the power supply fan dying??? i've been console gamign since time immemorial so i'm pretty familiar with system heat etc, but just kinda worried about XB1 right now.... any info would be much obliged.

    Never would have guessed that the power brick would have been the noisiest component in my entertaiment system. How did microsoft lose quit power brick technology?

    My power brick gets warm but not hot.

    I know the fan works in mine though because I can hear it which forces me to use energy saving mode.

    Can you hear the fan if you put your ear to it?

    thanks for info/help Mal, i will try tomorrow.... there was a laptop running along with a big space heater tonight, there was just too many noises at once, and fan noises to boot. i will try tomorrow during the day when its quiet and keep you posted, thanks

    My initial impression is an overheating issue, but you may also be experiencing an overheating or even bad power brick. Is the power brick hot to the touch?

    The reason your Power Brick is making a humming noise, is because inside of the power brick. Is a little fan, this fan keeps your Power Brick at the correct temperature. If your power brick gets hot, the fans RPM will increase and it will make a humming
    sound because your XBOX Power Brick Fan is cooling down your Power Brick. Nothing to worry about unless it's a roaring sound.
