Potential overheating Series S

Hey guys! I'm new here. Here's my question: does overheating shutdown on xbox series s work while on instant-on mode? Assume I left my xbox on instant-on and an update or game started to download. Some users cover their consoles under anti-dust sheet blocking any ventilation, would it shutdown automatically? And here's a second question: how effective is that shutdown system? Would it prevent an xbox to undergo any damage? What do you think?

Sure, I know there is no point covering xbox while playing. I'm talking about covering it when it's off. And true, dust free environment is crucial because of what you said- it sucks air and everything what is in air. I did a stupid thing 2 days ago placing a cover on my xbox while on instant-on and an update started to download. And it was pretty much on probably for 30 minutes when I uncovered it and found it pretty warm with fan spinning as if a game was running. It didn't shutdown tho. And I was just wondering if it still can shutdown even if I'm not playing. And if so, did I just damage my xbox?

You dont cover the top or bottom nor put it on carpet

Its sucks in air thru thr correct ottom and exports out the top

Pleasd keep in mind you need 2' of clearance ontop.

I have my mmseries x on my top glass shelf

With 5' from the tv which is on a wall mount so nothing is blocking my vents

Series.x can run upto 60 degrees without issue ps5 can run upto 65

I now see what you mean. No it should be fine, it’s off, so I’m pretty sure covering it while off is fine, it prevents any dust getting in while offline.

Hi there,

While I use the series X, I haven’t yet experienced any issues with leaving my xbox on extended times to see if it would shut down due to over heating. Think of it as a PC, as long as it gets air to keep it cool, leaving it on for extended time periods I don’t see why it would over heat. However I wouldn’t recommend it, as it could shut down, never tried. Not saying it will shut down due to over heating, but there’s a chance it could.

Really little point using dust covers as the machine will drawn in far more dust particals when it's on than when it's off as it has to draw in air and expel hot air to function.

Easier to keep the sourounding area dust free.

The system can monitor it's own thermals and shut itself down, but it's best to prevent that from happening by not covering any vents when on instant on.
