    Post-DDoS Disconnecting

A few hours ago I was hit with booted off of Xbox Live by a guy I was playing Black Ops 2 against. After restarting my router after about half 20 minutes of no internet on any device in the house, I restarted the router and restored the internet. Every other
device worked perfectly fine with no lag or disconnecting, but my when I tried to play Xbox, the game would run smoothly for a minute, then it would suddenly lag out (like when you disconnect but you're still on the map, and you just run around and see everyone
in the middle of doing things like running and climbing, but you can't shoot them and you can't reload), and I would be disconnected from Live. I was wondering if this was part of the DDoS attack or if it's something else? And if it is a result of the DDoS,
how should I fix it or how long will it take for the connection to be repaired? Or if it is not a part of the DDoS, any ideas what it could be? Thanks!

    :)

    DDOS attack?

If your isp is telling you it's an Xbox or psn issue you need to learn English

An isp will never blame a service for ddos attacks

It's criminal and legally makes them suspecible to million dollar lawsuits

The only thing Xbox is responsible for is your connectivity to Xbox live

Your ip is your responsibility along with your isp to protect yourself from disconnecting from the internet

Ddos or even dos attacks are against the law and enforced by your lsp

At the time you made this post EA servers were offline due to a Ddos attack.

First a little bit of background information about a DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service). In your particular case, another player used tools on his PC to find out your
IP Address of your internet connection. Think of that as a street address.

If they found out how to contact your internet connection, they will start another tool that will instruct "an army" of infected PCs to send bogus data to your home address. In case of your home internet connection, data from a few hundred infected PCs is
enough to "clog up" your internet connection with enough garbage data, that your game data can't be processed anymore.

If you restart your router, it depends on your Internet provider how they handle reconnects. Some providers will assign you the same IP address again, which means that all the garbage data from the DDoS is still being sent to your router, which is then again
    "clogged up" with bogus data.

After you restarted the router again, it might be that you got a new and different IP address as before, so the DDoS garbage data is now being sent to the wrong (your old) address still, and you should be able to connect normally.

However, depending on the infected PCs being used for the DDoS attack, it might still be, that the amount of garbage DDoS data "clogs up" resources of your Internet Provider in that area, and while you are able to access websites, it won't appear to lag
or hang like a real-time multiplayer game.

In either case: DDoS Attacks are illegal in most countries. You should definitely report that offending player with the reporting feature of your console (bring up the offending players gamertag, and then use the report option). Also it might be a good idea
to inform your ISP and the police that you have been DDoSed, so they can monitor your connection, and if another DDoS happens, they have logs about the attack and can work with law enforcement to find the person responsible for the attack, and punish him accordingly.

And when you report that attack to the police, it'd be a good idea to NOT mention that you were unable to play your game. Tell them that your whole Internet connection went out, and your parents were unable to do important work stuff, possibly losing money,
because a kid DDoSed your internet connection.

    Thanks Arminator!

But I am pretty sure the disconnecting is only occurring with the xbox, as I'm still having issues connecting with the console, but I can play multiplayer games on PC such as Minecraft perfectly fine. It's saying that I can connect to the network, but not
the internet, and when I run diagnostics, the internet is blocking everything from the console.

But your help is greatly appreciated, thanks Post-DDoS Disconnecting :)

Xbox One disconnects from Live every 5-20 minutes, only when I go on multiplayer games

The games you write are p2p and not on Servers. So Iḿ almost sure it's your Router.

Does you Router have an option for DDOS Protection? If yes p2p traffic is sometimes classified as DDOS. And your router disconnects.

I had the same Problem until I disabled DDOS Protection on my Router.

    What Router do you have.

Netfliy is not p2p so there is no "need" for your router to disconnect :)

Has no one found a solution to live disconnecting every 1-10 minutes yet?

there are many games on xbox live running on p2p. If your router have DDos protection then it sometimes disconnect you. Disable DDos protection on your router and be sure you run the latest Firmware for your router.
