Possible Xbox One Gamer: Questions About Previous System Issues

I've owned both systems this generation, at the start I used Craigslist or other methods of trade to try out both systems. Recently I hit a financial rough spot and had to sell all my gaming systems, but I'm now in a position to buy one of them back. The
problem is I'm not quite sure which to buy. Obviously this seems like an odd place to ask this question, you would think the answers would skew towards Xbox, but really I want to ask about some small things that added up to an Xbox One that just didn't quite
seem ready back when I originally owned it. Currently I believe that Xbox has the best exclusives available, but if these issues are still big ones I'm not sure I can take the plunge. Thanks for all your help!

1.) Is there still no option fto adjust TV aspect ratio repair? My TV doesn't have anything to help this and previously I had an issue of enough of the screen hanging off, no matter my adjustments, that it made Project Spark unplayable as half the words
were missing.

2.) Do games till take a long time to install and do they frequently stop at 1%? I had constant issues with this it seemed.

3.) Does the UI still frequently freeze or crash? Granted I had a used system and it had a Kinect, so I'm not sure what that played into it, but I do know that the UI seemed really buggy.

I'd love to hear from everyone, especially former or current PS4 owners on how your experience stacks up. I love the exclusives and really would like to enjoy them.

Backward Compatibility w/Xbox 360 games and Kinnect games

The issue with the Win8 v. Win7 comparison is, most devices running either system are similar in configuration. MS didn't make a conscious decision to cut out previous-gen gamers with Xbox One, it simply wasn't fiscally feasible, nor was it design possible,
to include the necessary hardware for the 360 software to run. Since the systems are so completely different, there would essentially need to be a second set of hardware inside the Xbox One case, one hardware running old games and one running new, which not
only presents size issues, but also cost issues, and overheating likelihood.

I don't personally have any of those things happen to me. In regards to the first question though I'm unsure, I'm not near my X1 to see if there is any form of option for that at the moment.

 

1) Op, the screen ratio was off on one of my tv's, it fit's my LG perfectly though. I don't know if this has been fixed?. 2) Games install quite quickly for me from disc and digital, some ppl have problems still I think. 3) I'm in the preview program and
the UI is way more stable now

I understand you don't want to ask PS4 questions, but now a year later? Follow the games you want to play and forget the brand

 

Thanks for the answers. RedEye, that is exactly what I do anyway. I've never been a person that is ever been tied to a brand. I had the 360 up to the point that they stopped making anything exclusive than switched to the PS3. I bought the PS4 originally
because I thought that it would be the same way again this generation, but thus far all the exclusives that seem more exciting to me are on Xbox One. Yes, LBP 3 and Uncharted 4 look fantastic, as does No Man's Sky, but the list on Xbox One's side for 2015
is staggering of games I want to play next year also. I just don't want to get the system and all the issues still be present, but it sounds like they've really put some work in. Of course, I'd like to just get both systems, but with my finances and the limited
time I have to game anyway it's just not feasible.

I have a decision to make it seems.

 

What resolution is your TV? Sounds like an overscan issue maybe. I can't say if that's fixed or not or whether it's a TV issue.

Installing games can take a long time because the console first checks to see if an update is available and if so, it'll download it. With a lot of games having day one updates that can be quite large, if your connection isn't fast it can extend the time
it takes. I've never had a game stop at 1% though. MS do have some work to do with the install process still, as it would be better if the update downloaded after enough of the game had installed so you could start playing it.

I've had issues with the UI with some of the beta dashboards, but the current dashboard version seems fine in that respect.

 

Thanks for the feedback Sigma. It's definitely an issue with my TV since it's older, but with like the Wii U I can adjust the screen to fix it. That's not a deal breaker though and my net is very fast, so sounds like none of it will be an issue.

I agree with you 100%. Unless your into JRPG's, Indies or 2nd rate shooters there isn't much to get excited about if you own the other system.

2015 has great games for both systems.

There is no overscan available on the xbox one at the minute, I'm really hoping a option is added in the future as my tv also cuts the edge's off, it's really annoying when snapping apps as there's some cut off.

 

Bazra, do most games still look ok and fit on screen nicely?

 

Games for the most part look fine, AAA games usually have options to set the safe zone, I've not ha Asda many problems in game, it's mainly the dashboard and apps that have cut off.

 

UI doesn't freeze nearly as much as it used to. Also, games don't seem to crash at all any more.
