Possible solution for Headset Adaptor problems

Like a lot of people I've had issues with the headset adaptor where suddenly people can't hear me talk and the only solution to get it working is to turn my Xbox off at the mains.

I think I may have found what one of the issues is; it seems to me that if you don't press any buttons on the adaptor for a while then it actually turns itself off but not FULLY off. Just so it stops receiving from your headset. I know when it's done
this as you can hear a "click" in your headset. This is when you suddenly can't use your mic and you have to then switch your Xbox off at the mains. To remedy this I just press the mute button every now and then and it seems to have solved the issues.

I'm not claiming this is a fix but it's worth giving it a try as I haven't had any problems since doing this. I should point out that I've done this with my TB XP400's.

Also, Turtlebeach are releasing their own Headset Adaptor so hopefully that will work properly.

Universal 3rd Party Headset Adaptor

I am predicting that the adaptor will not come out for another few months. The reason I think this is because MS have partnerships with Polk and Turtle Beach headsets and will want to sell as many as possible. If they release an adaptor before this the sales
of these headsets will go down. People would just buy the adaptor for their other 3rd party headsets.

Good to see that you've found a "fix" for this issue, I suggest posting it on the Xbox feedback website as a "bug" where the adapter switches off since you seem to have pretty descriptive information on the issue.

general settings - volume & audio output. check that the correct settings are in place.

what model headset is it? not all headsets are compatible, are you using an adaptor? is the adaptor new? have you tried a 2nd adaptor if possible? have you tried a 2nd controller?

try plugging your headset in via the jack without the adaptor if possible then the audio options should come up
