Ok so this is a breakdown of my abomination of a gaming set up...

I have a computer monitor with only DVI does not have HDMI port it also does not have speakers hence no audio jack ports to get video I've always used a HDMI to DVI adapter.

Now with the xbox 360 I had been using the audio adapter for the component slot on the 360 this made it so I had both chat and game audio though my turtle beach x12 headset. Now of coarse the x1 doesn't have a component slot so that's useless. I just bought
my x1 a few days ago and it just arrived yesterday. So i've been playing with the settings and I had bought a headset adapter to try and get things working (I was under the impression with the updated controller game audio could be transmitted via the controller,
guess I was wrong) Here is a link to this adapter I attempted to use http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004SP0WAQ?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00.
Now with this adapter I am able to get chat audio only, I have tested and it does work.

Now I've been talking with a buddy I know and he suggested getting an optical to analog audio converter and cable with give me game sounds and chat, I'd like another opinion/option. I've already got too many cords and buying a new monitor/tv with speakers
is out of the question considering I just dropped $400 bucks for the x1 itself.

    :)

    Gaming Headset

Since my turtle beaches are completely useless on Xbone until the adapters come out... I was wondering if anyone that has a Xbone was able to use their gaming headsets for the game sound? I am asking because I play on my computer monitor, and my monitor
does not have built in speakers, so my Xbone has 0 game sound and it is driving me nuts... I cant play without sound..... So does anyone know any decent headsets that work with Xbone, or know of any decent cheap Optical gaming headsets I could run and buy
    until the adapters are out?

One thing I would try is getting an HDMI Audio extractor with a 3.5mm Headphone jack. You can then plug your headset speaker cable into that and the mic cable into that adapter you have then that jack into the port on the Xbox one Controller. The HDMI audio
extractor should capture game and party audio, then the mic plugged into the adapter then the controller should have voice input worked out.

This is only a suggestion though I never had to deal with this issue personally, but it should work. It is also the only way I can see a solution other than shelling out for another headset then using your current one for something else.

    Controller headphone jack

You can connect your Xbox directly to your computer monitor, so as long as your monitor has an HDMI input.

If you actually mean your computer's HDMI port, then this would most likely not work as the HDMI ports on almost any computer only functions as an
output to another monitor (to extend the desktop for example). It is extremely uncommon for laptops to have an HDMI input or passthrough... I think the only computers I know that have that kind of function are very high-end Alienware gaming laptops.

Otherwise, your remaining solutions require you to buy something:

    • Find an
      Xbox stereo headset adapter
, since you apparently have the original model controller with only the accessory port on the bottom. However, I have heard at one point that these adapters are becoming harder to find, possibly because Microsoft isn't manufacturing
      these anymore.
    • Alternative to the previous adapter, the
      Xbox Chatpad
also functions as a stereo headset adapter for your controller.
    • Get a
      new controller
. The latest controller hardware revisions have a built-in 3.5mm port now.

    Monitor and Xbox Series S

Hi and thanks for reaching Microsoft Xbox gamer's community. My name is Josef.

I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft Xbox user like you.

Hope you're doing great today YoZF

Is not ideal to use a monitor without built-in speakers for consoles in general

In this case your best option would be connect a headset to the controller with a 3.5mm cable or via wireless to your console

    Favorite headset for gaming?

Yeah no chatback option until the adapter is released. I personally use the x12 turtle beach headset. One of the cheaper TB models and still provides great audio
