Possible malware

Hey so i let my son use my xbox one when i was at work and while his was updating and i come back and he was on some adult websites ( hes 18 btw ) that one of his friends told him to try and i walked in and try to turn it off but then i see a notification that said i had malware is it true? And if so what should i do?

not true, its a closed system so only signed applications can run. it will be just a web popup stating you have malware, very generic and can be ignored.

The Xbox one can not get malware or viruses on it, but the web browser could have browsed to a website that was "infected" and was designed to look like a virus popping up on the screen - or even just an ad or cookie or some kind of content from a regular
website that can technically be recorded as the xbox visiting it since it got data from it.

There is no antivirus for the console. It could have been a false positive from your firewall. If you are really concerned about it you can perform a
factory reset on the console.

In addition to put your mind at ease, be aware of the following:

1. The Xbox One's O.S is a closed system, it can't run content that is not digitally signed by Microsoft or its affiliated companies. While technically a console could get a virus, it would take so much work to do it, it just wouldn't be practical. In short,
it's far far easier for criminals to go after PC's - especially Windows PCs which can download and install practically anything. An Xbox can't do this.

2. For a virus to work anyway, it has recognise the O.S it was written for. For example, you could visit a website that was known to be infected for PC's on your Android phone, but your Android phone wouldn't get the virus, because the virus was not written
to infect Android devices or any other device other than a Windows PC.
