Possible Fix for the Netflix Streaming Issues

Like many others here, I was having problems with the Netflix app on the Xbox One. It was basically unwatchable. I moved my modem and started using a wired connection, as opposed to wireless, but it did no good. Then I found this thread here: http://forums.xbox.com/xbox_forums/xbox_support/xbox_one_support/f/4274/t/1646182.aspx.
I found the video referenced in the thread and found that I was running at like 235kbps with a pathetically low resolution. Finally, I just started playing with different things under the network settings on the Xbox, and I ended up assigning the console a
static IP. Lo and behold, IT WORKED! I'm currently running the test video from that thread at 5800kbps and 1920x1080!

    Here's what I did:

    1. Go to the settings app

    2. Go to network

    3. Go to advanced settings

    4. Note the current IP address and subnet mask that has been automatically set

    5. Go to IP settings, and type in the IP and subnet mask that you noted in step 4

    6. Do the same for your DNS settings

    7. Go into your router settings and assign the IP that you found in step 4 to your console

This worked like a charm for me, and I'm thrilled! For some reason, it seems that the Netflix app doesn't play nice with an IP that has been auto-assigned. It doesn't really make sense that this would fix it since I'm using the exact same information that
was auto-assigned, but entering it in manually seems to be the key. I'm hoping that this isn't just a fluke and that this will solve the issue for everyone else!

    :)

I set my x1 to a static ip address. I then went to my Linksys router and under DHCP Reservation, I added my X1. Rebooted the router. Still barely able to get to 480p.

Hm...that's a shame. :/ Either something else that I did is what fixed it (though I can't imagine what), or it was a fluke. That's disappointing.

i set up a static IP as well, with my xbox 360. no fix yet. i have been on the phone multiple times with netflix and microsoft. no one cares. no one will admit there is an issue. there is so much out there that makes this abundantly clear that netflix
is having major issues with xbox 360 and one. what a disgrace. sorry that i have no solutions. i have tried everything i can think of and / or has been suggested. i am hardwired into my router. i purchased a new ethernet cord. i use an HDMI connection
for graphics with xbox. static IP for the xbox outside of verizon range. i have unplugged the router and given it some time off. nothing works.

Ok I had a 2nd Linksys E3000 that I shelved a while back when i got my netgear 8port gigabit switch. After getting it all setup and my connection setup, I am now getting 1080p resolution after about 15secs. I noticed that the firmwares on the routers were
different. The previous router was 1.0.04 (one that was bad) and this new one was 1.0.03 (one that now works). I tried flashing the DD-WRT custom firmware to the one that didn't work thinking that it was a firmware issue. Well no suck luck. Still poor
    streaming.

At this point, I'm leading to believe that something in the router is messed up and not working well with Netflix. I know that doesn't necessarily help others since they probably aren't in the same boat as having 2 routers. What I could suggest is that
you hardwire your computer or X1 to your modem to eliminate your router. If you get HD quality while hardwired then your router is the culprit.

So this hasn't worked for anyone? Hm. I've been testing it periodically throughout the day to see how it plays, and it gets to full HD each time within about 10 seconds. I'm not sure what I did, but I wish I could figure it out so I could help everyone else!

This did not help at all, bitrates of 375 to 560 kbps is what i get!

It's silly. If the network "detailed test" says I'm getting 77Mb/s that should be fine without any network gymnastics, especially given that my $90 blu-ray player sitting right beside it on the same wireless network streams HD flawlessly. The judder, poor
bitrate, etc. is all on the Xbox One, otherwise we'd have the same problem with other devices, which we don't.

I was able to get a copy of the 1.0.03 firmware for the Linksys E3000 and flashed it on the router that wasn't working. It appears to have solved my issues.

So again, my suggestion is to remove any router from the equation and direct connect your X1 to your modem and see if that works. If so, it's the router at fault.

Even if the router works fine on every single other device in the house? That sure doesn't feel right to me, when all problems point to a single piece of hardware it's hard to blame another piece of hardware that works great with everything else...

I have a Netgear router too and a Netgear extender, and whether I hardwire the Xbox to the extender, or use either the 2.5 or 5Ghz N bands of either device the results are all the same. Sounds odd that Linksys and Netgear all have the same problems but
    the Xbox One is OK?

yes, hard wire the x1 to your cable modem, not to the router or extender. If you hardwire the x1 to the cable modem directly you eliminate all other network possibilities. If you get full HD then it's something in your network causing the issue.

I was able to get Full HD from Amazon Instant Video and VUDU on my X1 but not Netflix. it appears in my case, SOMETHING in the 1.0.04 firmware for my router doesn't play nice with Netflix. I tried every type of setting and nothing fixed it short of going
    back to the 1.0.03 firmware.

So try connecting the X1 to your cable modem and see if you get HD video. Gotta start eliminating devices from the equation.

So I have a 230MB connection and I have to dedicate it to a single device? Seems a bit extreme, given that every single other device in my house works just fine.

My point is that I hardwired it to the extender to see if it's the WIFI stack on the XBOX that's the problem. If I had to guess it's the video CODEC and/or the HDMI implementation that's to blame since the audio doesn't stutter or skip at all, which I'd
expect if it was the stream/network issue. Netflix BUFFERS the video data so it's basically reading ahead, and if it runs out of buffer it stops the whole show and buffers, it shouldn't randomly drop frames to 'keep up', it makes no sense.

What you are talking about may fix your bandwidth issue if it's only playing in low-res, but to me the resolution is secondary to the stuttering. Playing beautiful 1080P images as a choppy slideshow isn't what I want. I get full HD and 5800kbit streams
just fine some of the time (off-peak) and they stutter just as badly as the 700kbps streams so it's not the network, it's the video hardware or CODEC.

  15. I have the same issue, 74 meg connection, but the stuttering is shocking :-(
