    How would i determine whether an xbox 360 game can be purchased on the xbox store? Because i saw portal 2 but i am unable to buy it. However, I am able to download other xbox 360 games like forza horizon.

    Backward compatibility

    So I went and looked at the list and it claims portal 2 is backwards compatible, but when I put the disc in, it says it's not. Anyone else having troubles with backwards compatibility?

    Unfortunately, it's been announced that any 360 games that require a USB accessory (like the Skylanders portal of power) will not be coming to backwards compatibility.

    You probably could download Forza Horizon because it was free with games with gold this month. If you are unable to buy Portal 2, try to do it with your computer in the main web of xbox store with your main gamertag.

    If you can give me more information about your problem I would really appreciate, like what message does pop up when you try to buy it?

    To clarify, not all games can be purchased on the console and need to be purchased on the website as murph17 suggested. Portal 2 is one in specific that you would need to purchase either on an Xbox 360 console or on xbox.com

    You can purchase the game on xbox.com
    HERE     and then download the game on your Xbox One console from the Ready to Install section.
