Poor playback picture quality when playing DVDs

Hi, I've just recently began using my X1 to watch some DVDs (not Blu-Ray) and something I noticed straight away is the poor quality picture playback. Unlike games which are crisp, dvds resemble something that wouldn't have looked out of place on an old
VHS player back in the days. The picture is very misty and is not crisp in the slightest. Even using my daughter's inexpensive dvd player (as does the 360) gives a far superior picture when playing the same DVD on the same TV.

The only auto change my TV does when moving from the dash screen to the blu-ray app is to revert from 1080/60 to 1080/50. Tried 900/50 and 720/50 and it still results in a poor picture. It's like it's downscaling rather than up scaling.

I reside in the UK so it's a UK X1. I've tried everything, yet the picture quality is still well below from what I'd expect a dvd to look like. Like i said, game discs are completely fine, it's just films/box sets etc that are poor. Watching films on
Netflix and other apps work great also.

Wow you guys really need to buy some games.

One of my favorite parts of any DVD playback is the Bloo-Ray Commercial.

Your passable DVD suddenly goes crisp, clear and sharp, the volume goes a little higher and they tell you "This is what it's like with Bloo-Ray"...

Yeah, great, but you just acheived this on a DVD

Some DVD's are poorly made. Some aren't. When it comes to the playback experience a poor quality DVD is going to give you a poor quality experience, regardless of the player.

 

Dvd playing quality

I recently moved and before I moved my xbox one played dvd in a higher quality than 480i. Now that I moved and set things back up, my picture quality on playing dvds has become crappy and play in only 480i. I am playing the exact same dvd as I was playing
before I moved. I had no issues with it before and nothing is different other than my new location.

 

I bought an Xbox One and live in the US. I don't think it's a UK problem as I'm having the same issue. No purchased the Xbox one as a full entertainment system and am disappointed that DVD playback is worse than my PS3. I wish I would have known about
this before trading in my old console and now have to dig out my old DVD player just to watch them in decent quality. Extremely disappointed!!
