True as well Brandeisel. In retrospect they should not have used the Kinect to justify the price but if they chose to go head to head with Sony in terms of price perhaps they would have more than made up the difference with consoles sold.

 

Even still, I know that they had to make a bundle cut, and the Kinect 2.0 is not cheap. And I have read some of the great studies that they are using the Kinect 2.0 technology for studies.

And being that the Kinect 2.0 was supposed to be integral to the Xbox One experience I honestly think that unbundling it was a bad thing.

Getting back to my point, I get that this is a business and you have to make a profit. But why not just cut the price and keep the Kinect bundled? And let the consumer decide whether or not they want to use it.

Well, I think I know why. Consumers would have still asked for an unbundled Xbox One.

 

On a personal level I Still feel the kinect IS integral to the user experience. Otherwise you wouldn't have so many people complain about difficulties with using a controller for certain features. Unfortunately now Microsoft have to cater to the naysayers.

I do feel tho that if it was priced lower and without the "Kinect" label, a kinect in the box would not have received such harsh criticism

 

Oh I agree. The Kinect is integral. I couldn't imagine my Xbox One without it.

And I believe you are right regarding 2 launch packages. Strictly speaking systems, the Kinect is what separates itself from the competition (Online services aside).

MS made themselves look stupid. They needed no additional help.

 

See that is where you just seem so lost. MS didn't do anything but follow through with their original plan. The competition is the one that seen bad response and change the script last second. Therefore what really happened is the other just tried to make
them selves more attention all the while a bus drove over ms.

They didn't even see it coming. The people of this world are too susceptible to vindictive behavior. Ps can be your hero for all I care if you enjoy it good. I'm glad cause I know there is no other feeling then coming home to a great game and some friends
to hang with on any given day after work!

And Xbox has provided me that for over a decade!

The reveal damaged the Xb, it was just horrible.

 

Xbox One sales are doing fine. The only reason PS4 is doing better is because it's cheaper. That and because people are dumb and didn't understand the original plan. People complain about "always online" yet Destiny sells $500 million in the first few days.

To many people are puppets now a days.... no independent thought; if it is on the internet it must be true, and if a siht storm can be created.... gitty up. MS should of stuck to there guns and kept the Kinect with the console....

I dont need games to enjoy my kinect. VC and Skype alone make it worth it for me. This is getting slightly off topic now. As I said before lets not turn this into with vs without debate. The question was do you think the Kinect may have sold better if Microsoft
didnt make it a selling point. Forget about which is more powerful because ive played on both and dont see much of a difference if any. And lets not forget PS3 was more powerful than 360 and look how that turned out

 

This whole thing started long before the console even released or even was officially announced when it was rumored that the console may not even come with a disc-drive - do any of you remember that? That was the start of a snowball that turned into an avalanche
with every other successive announcement that everyone didn't like.

What I find interesting is that MS did everything right - they did research, found out what people liked, and went with it. They looked at the Xbox 360 and discovered that more people used it for media like with the Netflix app than for the games - for this
reason and more, they marketed it as a device that could watch TV and do all sorts of other things, in addition to playing games. Sadly, they pushed it so hard that people actually believed it wasn't going to be very good at playing games at all (especially
when compared to the competition) and I find that just sad all around...

Still, answering your question, JPep, is incredibly difficult. Do I think the Kinect sensor could've sold better? No, I personally don't think so. Why do I think that? Simply because every console came with one. You can't get better sales than that. If it
had come separately, I think more people would've done as they are currently doing now and would be going Kinectless instead, which would reduce the Kinect's sales (surely well below the 3-5 million that they've sold along with the console as is).

is not Irony, People don't mind being online, when they want to be online, being forced to check-in, or your games not working, is what took the biscuit. and caused the uproar. Also, the games sold over 4 formats, and has had so much hype, more than Titanfall,
and Call Of Duty, Watch Dogs, Why would you not expect people to buy it)

 

I remember MS talking about an attachement for 360 games to be played on the XB1, It turned out to be an HDMI pass through socket.

The reveal hardly focussed on the core gamers, it seemed to focus more on profit and this turned people off. The younger gamers who have only ever owned ms consoles didn't feel the bite.

Where are we now? Most people are over the problems and games are coming out, when you consider Destiny sales on the 360 and Xb1 it equals the PS3 and 4. In reality, the die hards don't want to ever agree or see there was a problem. They'd rather convert
words like disappointed to entitlement etc etc, This fad is hopefully over soon but I don't know from reading some of the threads here.

What I do know is that the same gamers are here that where from 5 years back when we all moaned about something else

GG I'm not sure you understand me. My original question is not about how the Kinect would sell but how well do you think the X1 would sell if they didnt push the Kinect so hard. By all means leave it packaged together but dont talk about it. Let people find
out for themselves what it can do as they go along. In my hypothetical and unfortunately impossible scenario (unless you have some plutonium and a De Lorean) there is NO KINECT. Just an X1 (that happens to have a 3D scanning IR blasting nightvision HD motion
detecting camera as part of its Core Operating System) in the box. My "theory" is that there would be less negative outcry thus giving MS the opportunity to stay just a little bit closer to their original plan. Granted its just one factor. The 24 hr check
in and all the other stuff is a different matter altogether (but I get the feeling that if the 24 hr thing did happen people wouldnt complain so much about games needing updates as it would happen in the background) This was a stupid thread to start and I
didnt mean to cause any arguments. As a hypothetical question that cant truly be answered I ask that you all limit your opinions to the one facet that I keep trying to say. Maybe I'm just no good at explaining what I'm asking for. Some of you have touched
on it which is cool but then get sidetracked by all the other stuff MS *** up. So last time, what if the Kinect was not the Kinect but simply a part of the X1? (I feel like the kid in the Matrix telling Neo there is no spoon) lol. Keep it civil guys
