  1. Poor HDMI picture quality

I have dish network hopper, a new onkyo home theater receiver, and a panasonic plasma. I had just signed up for dish network around the time I got an xbox one. I was never happy with the video quality. I had 2 technicians out to the house to address the
issue and there is NO issue with signal to the dish or anything.

Today, randomly, I decided to run the cable directly to the reciever and skip the xbox. WOW! It looks FANTASTIC! When hooked up to the xbox one I have lots of compressiony boxes, especially in darker solid color areas, and also on gradients. (like a flashlight
    on a wall would cause)

I have seen other people having similar issues. Is there a fix in the works? Has microsoft acknowledged the problem?

I bought an xbox one for precisely the tv integration functionality and continuity with my gamertag/friends. Half of that is now gone. I'm upset.

    :)

    HDMI HAS POOR PICTURE QUALITY

I'm really disappointed with loss of picture quality when watching TV. I’m using Dish VIP612 DVR->HDMI->XBOX1-> HDMI->LG LH55 TV. Changed out the HDMI cables and went through all the suggestions from Xbox, but still looks bad. This 240HZ TV looks like
a 120HZ TV now. I’m curious what HZ of TV other people who have noticed a quality loss have.

    Big Marritt,

    1. I agree, the ideal for ease is to run (for surround sound) STB HDMI Xbox One HDMI AVR HDMI TV. Although, I had noticed a few things. Everything must be set to the same output format of the STB. If the STB is running in 720 then every other device is attempting
to upscale it's own format (or style) of upscale then a degradation of the signal will be passed from device to device. Since you are using DirecTV I believe most of the incoming signal from that STB is 1080i, you may want to try 1080p instead, that could
cause the issue you are looking at.

    -

    2. The Xbox One at the moment (although there is a beta option now available on the Settings > TV and Cable > ... for HDMI surround sound). Although, currently supported is Optical out for 5.1 and 7.1 Dolby uncompressed (the one likely you want to use).
HDMI out does have surround sound via HDMI HDMI IN does not (unless attempting the beta option as noted earlier).

    -

If have done the correct troubleshooting, nicely done... I wish everyone... yea. The next step for you is to doublecheck the signal being passed by the STB to make sure it is in 1080p not i. Next, if that does not work try 720p. The 720p is not a permanent
solution, it is an attempt at a 'control' to fix the video issue first then work backwards.

    -

I hope this makes sense please do post back with your results

    -

    -Cheers

  4. Poor HDMI picture quality

We look at the Xbox One as an ever evolving eco-system. The console you see today will not be the same console 6 month/1 year/ etc. down the line. If you take the 360 as an example, from the blades dashboard to what it is today, what a difference! Even in
the video/audio quality it is much better than it was. The same will be true here, this is the first step in the evolution of “next gen” consoles. Please hang in there. We will be bringing out updates to fix and improve things like this. Thank you for understanding.

There are a few things to test (if interested):

    1. Test simple (use this for your control): STB (sat box) HDMI Xbox One HDMI TV

    - HDMI 1.4 High speed (of high quality) or 2.0 is recommended.

    2. Change TV settings: Try Gaming Mode, or Cinema, etc.

    3. Configure HDTV Settings (Settings > Display & Sound)

    4. Adjust Video Fidelity on the Xbox (color depth and Color space)

    5. Try locking in video quality on STB (sat box) within settings: 1080p or 720p

    6. Try adjusting Native Mode on the STB (sat box) within settings:

Let me know if you have any questions

    -Cheers

    HDMI HAS POOR PICTURE QUALITY

    Hello XB1R Hermes,

    1. Removing extra HDMI hops is a good idea. The longer the daisy chain the higher chance for a reduction of quality (audio and video)

The whole purpose was to install the Xbox One in between the Cable/Sat box and your TV so you can have TV and other Snap-Ins on the same screen. My point is that the Xbox One degrades the High Def picture to non high-def level.

    2. 5.1 and 7.1 Dolby uncompressed audio format is supported, and does work very well.

Yep, it does work over the HDMI output, but is not currently supported on the optical out. Only DTS or Stereo is supported on optical out. I have even seen other posts stating that there is a patch coming out sometime to correct this. Not everybody has
an updated AV Receiver that accepts HDMI input so they only have optical as a solution. That being said, I just got a new AV Receiver so this is now a moot point.

    4. On this forum section I always ask for the following info, please help me by providing this information to know where to direct focus

    DirecTv HR21-700

    Denon AVR-E300

    Xbox One

Samsung Rear Projection TV up to 1080p

    Here is signal flow:

DirecTv --> Denone AVR --> Xbox One --> Samsung TV

This setup gives poor quality video. When I remove the Xbox from the equation, my video quality goes right back to where it should be. I have even run the directv directly to the Xbox and then TV and still get crappy picture.

It is definitely the Xbox One that is the problem and Microsoft should fix it.

    HDMI HAS POOR PICTURE QUALITY

    Hi Folks,

There seems to be a wide causation of issues here, so I will give this a top down view:

    1. Removing extra HDMI hops is a good idea. The longer the daisy chain the higher chance for a reduction of quality (audio and video)

    - For car enthusiasts, think of this like a driveshaft. The longer the driveshaft the lower the total amount of horsepower is transferred to the pumpkin.

    - There is no such thing as a perfect pass-through, even hubs and nice switches isolate the network path to layer data more efficiently. Thus a reduction of quality can be expected. This is normal as 2 additional hops (including an AVR).

    2. 5.1 and 7.1 Dolby uncompressed audio format is supported, and does work very well.

    3. Match the out/inputs. If the Xbox is at 1080p, the AVR is 1080p, and Cable box is 720p. That means that each device in the chain is going to attempt to upscale 1080p (Including the TV), thus reduction of quality of video and/or audio.

    4. On this forum section I always ask for the following info, please help me by providing this information to know where to direct focus:

    - TV provider

    - Layout (cable box HDMI Xbox One HDMI TV)

    - Make/Model (cable box and AVR if being used)

    Cheers!

    HDMI HAS POOR PICTURE QUALITY

I also have this problem. Noticed the reduction visual quality on the TV signal immediately. My setup is ATT Uverse main DVR connected to xbox one through hdmi cable (one that I've used for a couple of years without issue)xbox to ONkyo tr805 receiver via
the xbox included HDMI, then the same type of hdmi from receiver to vizio M701 TV.

I'm also having the freezing of my TV app issue, choppy audio. Its not unusable, but its pretty close. Very annoying for a very expensive piece of equipment.
