multiple controllers. New batteries. Not just me. Common issue that causes static and breaking up until eventually the controller disconnects, when chat cable, ear buds, or headset is connected to the adapter or controller.

Effects Xbox elite controller as well.

If you start off a response wth "sorry to hear that" and advise me to power cycle my Xbox, connect with a usb and update my controller, I'd like to congratulate you now on being a worthless [Mod removed]

Plugging in Headphones to Controller causes controller to disconnect/die

UPDATE: I just got a NYKO Charge base, and the headphones also drain it the hell out of it. Should I just bring back my headphones?

Yup, I came here just now to research this same exact problem. Started 2 nights ago. My controller died for no reason (the batteries were pretty fresh) so I swapped out for new batteries and no luck. Unplugged my headset and lo and behold the controller
worked. Tried plugging the headset back in several times. Each time it would "kill" the controller.

To make matters worse. The next day I tried turning on my One using my controller and that wouldn't even work. I took the batteries out and popped them back in again and it finally worked. Without the headset plugged in, of course.

Of note, I treat my controllers like gold. No tantrum throws or dropping them anywhere. I'd update the controller, but don't have the usb cable to do so.

Issues binding my controller with the headset plugged in

This. I have the same exact problem. Xbox one controller will not turn on the xbox with the headphones plugged in. It will not be recognized by the xbox at all, even if powered up and the xb button is pressed.

With headphones removed the controller acts normally and will turn the system on.

I hope somebody has an answer as to if I have a defective controller or headphone.

    Buzzing/ ringing noise in headset

As someone said already, make sure it is plugged all the way in. This can cause static. Also if being charged it can affect the sound issues you are having. The other thing, make sure your headphone adapter is plugged in properly. This can also cause an
issue with sound. Try removing it from the control, plug it back in and see if it is fixed. I have had to replace mine before due to it being damaged. Before you replace it follow what everyone has said to do here.
